My self-summary
My most vivid memories as a child are very basic- sitting atop bluffs amazed by the waves crashing below; picking apricots at an apricot farm and having the sticky fragrant pulp drip down my chin as the fruit entered my mouth; doing backdives off the side of the swimming pool. I enjoy trying out new recipes and making up my own. So I appreciate the simple things in life.

I am looking for someone who is sweet, considerate, and has a basic sense of compassion and thinks that that's important to focus on. There's too much that needs to be done to improve our society to waste time on rudeness. Priorities. I am looking for someone who believes that with their own effort and group effort, the world can be left a better place. So even if you're jaded or 'realistic', that hasn't defeated you in trying to do good in the world, and you're not only thinking about it, but DOING something about it.
What I’m doing with my life
For seven years, I was a research scientist at work, but I've wrapped that up for now, and am ready to move on to my next big career adventure. Before that, I made my living as a professional musician. I love reading and studying language in my spare time- French, Spanish, Asian languages. Ultimately, along with continually learning, the most important thing and goal for me is to work on projects that will leave the world a better place than when I found it.
I’m really good at
the piano (in the past), writing (when the occasion calls for it), making special dishes, analyzing things :)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A) no one favorite- but I love the classics of western lit (fitzgerald, faulkner, hemingway, steinbeck), contemporary authors (Amis, Bolano, Murakami, Bryson). I love social science and history books, as well as more popular science books (mind wide open, proust was a neuroscientist, books by Bill Bryson, etc.).
B) 12 Monkeys, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Lawrence of Arabia, East of Eden, Last King of Scotland, Lives of Others, Science of Sleep, 2 Days in Paris, list goes on and on
C) Curb Your Enthusiasm, Downton Abbey, Portlandia, No Reservations, House, now, Naked and Afraid!
D) everything from Robin Thicke to James Blake to Tchaikovsky to world music to all kinds of electronic music. I like very many kinds of music- my pandora list is too long.
E) anything using fresh and local ingredients
The six things I could never do without
English language, hot showers, internet, creative compassionate friends, good sleep cycles, good eats and drinks (not in any particular order)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
human nature
On a typical Friday night I am
spending time with friends
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I was raised in a secular humanist environment (aka. no church), but I am theist as far as I can remember like age 5.
If I meet the right person to do it with, (and he wants to of course), I am open to adoption from another country or even fostering.
You should message me if
you think we could have some meaningful connection whether it be as teacher, student, soulmate, or friend. :)
