My self-summary
I live in Flatbush, Brooklyn -- my apartment is in the neighborhood of Midwood -- close to the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Kensington, Windsor Terrace, Park Slope, Ditmas Park.... I moved to NYC in 1997, a couple years after I got my college degree (history major) in my hometown of Vancouver, Canada. I am an 'NY Times' reader, bicyclist and jogger, lover of classical music. My job is with the New York state government, the job concerns highway transportation.
What I’m doing with my life
Outside of work I spend my time appreciating art in galleries and museums; reading the NY Times and nonfiction books (especially history, politics, sociology); enjoying lots of music (rock and classical mostly)....
I’m really good at
The three R's -- reading, (w)riting, (a)rithmetic. Also good at navigating the city -- have been here almost twenty years, feel like I know the ropes pretty well (though there's always room for improvement).
The first things people usually notice about me
A slight accent that some people say is hard to place -- it may be a western-Canadian one, I'm not sure...!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Rock... have seen "live" these rock bands/acts: Clash, Iggy Pop, Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann, Devo, Ramones, Black Flag, Steely Dan, Dead Kennedys, Motorhead, Fountains of Wayne, Juliana Hatfield. These days I am more likely to attend classical-music concerts -- for one thing, they start, and end, earlier!
Am a big fan of Randy Newman, John Lennon, old Springsteen, Lou Reed, Kate Bush, also Britpop bands of the 90s such as Suede, Verve, Pulp.

Like to read poetry -- especially if it's NYC-related.

Films: Animal House, Serpico, French Connection, Tommy (the Who), Blues Brothers, Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, film noir, documentaries....
Six things I could never do without
exercise -- jogging, rowing-machine, even plain-old walking counts (kinda).
the New York Times -- the front section especially
*music* -- such as 90s "alternative rock"....
Bic ballpoint pens, paper to write on
seltzer water
I spend a lot of time thinking about
politics and government; the American political scene; art; New York City; psychology...
On a typical Friday night I am
in the West Village, where I frequent a health-food restaurant on Sixth Avenue... en route to a museum that's open late on Friday nights.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Most people on OK Cupid dodge this question, it seems -- perhaps I'll do the same! But I'll own up to having an interest in religion, though I am a professed agnostic.
You should message me if
I don't have any "deal-breakers", let me mention some "pluses" -- I especially welcome women who are "in therapy", who like to exercise, who are interested in politics, history, psychology, art, music, painting....
