My self-summary
This weekend was filled with friends from all walks of life and from various chapters of my own. In reflection, the weekend was emblematic of who I am and what I value: laughter, real talk, spontaneity, empathy, solidarity, diversity, outdoor adventure, and some real good food, wine & yoga.

I'm looking for a partner who is just that: a sexy companion who loves the lens through which I see the world and helps me expand by introducing me to new views and experiences. A meaning-making co-pilot. I have incredibly varied friendships and want someone who can transverse alongside and not only enjoy the ride but love me even more for it.

Maybe you speak more than one language. Maybe you call yourself a feminist. Maybe you listen to podcasts and rock a live storytelling event. Maybe community is vital to you-whatever that looks like. Maybe you value questioning and wondering. Maybe all of those things or none of them.

I'm proud of what I've done and who I am-accomplished my doctorate by 30 but even more so, studied something that truly mattered to me (and a few other folks). Now I'm in LA and ready to meet someone who not only isn't threatened by a beautiful Jewess who has a strong sense of self but is even more attracted because of it.

And please-dry humor, wit, and conversationalist engagement is incredibly welcome.

Words that friends and past loves have used to describe me: nurturing, intense, hysterical, driven, warm, and curious.

I am loving, expressive, and tend to tell it like it is.
What I’m doing with my life
Working as an education researcher on a national initiative to reform mental health care in our schools.

Spend a lot of time thinking and discussing death, trauma, resilience, healing, and care-giving.

Trying to figure out what life in LA can be like after finishing school last year (for which I relocated from my beloved San Francisco).

I am a yogini, great book store discover-er, red wine drinker, food & culinary enjoyer and cooker, conscious social justice-er, avid This American Life/The Moth/Invisibilia/On Being/TEDTalks listener, traveler, cross cultural explorer, handstand admirer, and more.

I take pride in my bookshelf. Some people go into people's medicine cabinets. I analyze folks by the books in their home.
I’m really good at
Throwing together last minute dinners, working with teenagers, Taboo, flexible yoga positions, being family, being addicted to coffee, loving, sarcasm, thinking creatively, and doing way too much all the time.
The first things people usually notice about me
Laughter, positive energy, and eyes and lips :)

If I'm talking, my entire body is involved. So there's that, too.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Nikki Giovanni, Neruda, Rilke, Delpit, Neruda, Etgar Keret, Studs Terkel, Anzaldua, Audre Lorde, Cornel West...

Father G & Jorja Leap's books will give you a really good idea about what moves my heart and feet.

Now reading Americanah by Ngozi Adichie. It's beautiful.

(Just got published in Rick Ayers' new book. So that's exciting.

Hammocks, strong Peets coffee, the sound of the New York Times landing on the steps Sunday morning, the feeling of my body after yoga, the smell of just cut grass, how San Francisco looks after a good rain, fall leaves, the smell of challah in the oven...

City Lights bookstore...Marin Headlands (or anywhere with redwood trees)...Grabbing a brew and watching the sun go down...Firewood pizzerias...Farmer's Markets...Zacatecas in Mexico...the North of Israel...Crissy fields walks...

Music: Rhye, Beck, Yuna, London Grammar, D'Angelo, Jessie Ware, MisterWives, Goapele, Janelle Monáe, Solange, Lauryn Hill, John Legend, Kanye, Common, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, India.Aire, Julieta Venegas, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Ray LaMontagne, José González, Van Morrison, Pac, The Roots, Erykah, Kelis, Banks, and more.
Six things I could never do without
-My family and the abundant deep friendships in my life
-Really, really good food.
-When I find myself smiling unknowingly
-Moments of pause & grounding
I spend a lot of time thinking about
-means to the ends and ends to the means
-My friends and family
-To-do lists
-Education inequities
-How to be conscious of life's blessings---the balance between being present and being driven in my vision of the future
On a typical Friday night I am
Wherever I need to be to come down from the week: a bar, Shabbat dinner, with friends, curled up to a movie, at temple, at a cultural event, or dreaming of travel plans.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I can't burp. True story.
You should message me if
You are a loving, warm, family-dedicated, educated, dry, witty, beautiful man who wants the best of himself to shine through a kickass partnership.

Also, I should warn that I am usually attracted to men who are tall, burly, and strong-hearted. If you don't have "the gym" listed as one of your six things, all the better. If you have a tendency to be attracted to strong willed women who have a solid sense of self and aren't threatened by that but are even more turned on, even better.
The two of us
