My self-summary
My name is Marco, I am non-monogamous and am fully blind with low light perception.

I am a Bay Area native, and I have lived in San Francisco since 2002. I have been described as being very kind, caring, understanding, witty, intelligent, complex, a food and coffee snob, a crazy movie buff, a trivia sponge, a human notepad, and an overall kick in the pants to be around. I am full of great or very bad on-the-spot puns. So consider yourself forewarned.

If you are into the Myers-Briggs personality types, I am an ENFJ. Prior to going blind, I was an INFP, interestingly enough. I may be right on the cusp of being an ENTJ as I tend to do more thinking when confronted with a problem.

I have an eidetic and photographic memory, and can remember so many contextual details about any given moment it's almost scary. These aspects of myself have become invaluable after losing my vision suddenly a few years ago. Transitioning into the blind lifestyle hasn't been easy, especially having to start off life with a clean slate, but I'm marching through it as strongly as I can. Feel free to ask questions about it, I don't mind talking about it and am an open book.
What I’m doing with my life
I work as an accessibility specialist at a TNC here in SF (think pink mustaches), making sure the app works for blind people and passengers with other disabilities. Getting better with orientation and mobility, studying accessibility tech and planning to learn iOS development so I can help make apps and websites accessible rather than just complaining about the bugs and issues. Attending fun classes at the Lighthouse for the Blind, self-learning Braille music, and advocating my ass off for the ADA.

Prior to all of this, I was a senior animator and VFX artist, both in a freelance capacity and full-time at a motion graphics house here in San Francisco. I absolutely loved every aspect of this work and miss it dearly, but am doing my best to move on.

Apart from that, I am working out, finding new places to eat, listening to lots of movies and audiobooks. Having problems with dictation. Going to the Symphony. Playing the piano, kicking ass at brainstormer pub trivia with my league trivia team on Tuesday nights, going to concerts, events, and Sharks games with my primary partner, and actively looking for play partners.
I’m really good at
Cooking, baking, playing the piano, learning songs by ear and improvising, animating, pleasing others, giving, holding discussions about various topics, talking about movies and music, adapting and finding new ways to do things, giving massages and back scratches, cuddling, languages, deduction and intuition.

Talking your ear off about movies and videogames that I used to enjoy visually. Using my heightened senses to eavesdrop in loud restaurants.

Growing a lifestyle beard and hoping to meet Joe Thornton and get his compliments on it. Totally rocking a spicy salad!
The first things people usually notice about me
My height, beard, and hopefully my long cane. Making the cane visible definitely helps prevent collisions on the street, most of which I will usually win. After that, it's probably some form of clothing that has the San Jose Sharks logo on it, as they are my favorite sports team.

Soon you will probably notice me wandering around the city wearing an AIRA Device.

Six things I could never do without
Family, loved ones, and friends, iPhone, owls, sex, piano, adaptive technology.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Accessibility, ADA advocacy, ways to do things without vision, music, movies, open relationship dynamics, piano, how to confuse our cat, cooking and recipes, socialism, sex and silliness, drafting the perfect Twitter complaint, wording feedback for an improperly designed or inaccessible app or site, how best to enjoy life with my primary and negotiating the logistics of blindness.

How to resist the waddling orange outhouse in the White House.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with my primary partner, checking out concerts, symphonies, or shows with audio description, eating all the things at a new restaurant, coming up with new themed board game nights, or just relaxing and planning for the weekend. Depending on the season schedule, we may be down in San Jose cheering our boys on in the Shark Tank.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
With no better place to talk oneself up, I am quite proud of my giving skills and am always happy to lend them out. 😋

I'm on FL, and am beginning to enjoy writing about my experiences with dating, sex, and blindness.
You should message me if
You think we have a good amount in common, and you are willing to work with my disability. I am always up for adventures around the city, and I definitely don't mind sharing what this entire brand-new adventurous experience is like for me during my adaptation process.

You are also non-monogamous or polyamorous, and understand that I am primary to iTryThis. I'm mainly interested in finding like-minded people for casual play partners for either solo play or group play with my primary, and also potential short-term dating as either solo or a couple. Do you find meeting/dating a blind person an interesting challenge?
