My self-summary
Name's James. I'm a transplant to the Bay area from an enigmatic and foreign land, otherwise known as South Carolina. I'm not your typical southerner though. I come complete with "y'all", sweet tea, line dancing, and horseback riding but you might take note of the "agnostic" tag to the right. I came out here 3 years ago to work at a spaceflight R&D facility in Palo Alto. So, I guess you can call me the space cowboy....some call me the gangster of love.

I moved into my own place in SF almost a year ago, but there is still so much more exploring to be done.

Really, the most important thing I'm looking for is someone that thinks I'm awesome and of whom I think the same. Outside of that, surprise me.
What I’m doing with my life
Attempting to navigate an early career in Silicon Valley, do maker and hacker side projects, and have a life all at the same time. Results may vary.

Since moving out here, I've been up to all the quintessential NorCal activities. Hiking, backpacking, camping, skiing, kayaking, wakeboarding, bars and clubs in SF, wine country, and so much more.
I’m really good at
problem solving, planning, and procrastination. I think the first two are the result of practice caused by the third.
The first things people usually notice about me
Honestly, you should tell me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Sci-fi genre books, especially Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy and the Ender series. I got a new Kindle for Christmas, so I'm going through books like crazy.

I really like movies and TV that are a visceral exploration of humanity. Top honors go to Batman: The Dark Knight, Game of Thrones, Black Sails, and the modern Battlestar Galactica.

When it comes to music, I'll listen to just about anything given the right situation. In general, I'd say rock for driving, country for riding, jazz for relaxing/expression, hip hop and EDM for clubbing, etc.

If you're looking for something to understand me by, listening to Halestorm would be a good start.

I'm a die hard foodie. If you place restrictions on what you'll eat, we'll have issues. Sorry veggies. I used to have a small container garden when I wasn't in the city. I also like to cook fancy improv dishes. Interested in being a culinary guinea pig?

In general, I like the finer things. Craft beer, 18+ year scotch/whiskey/bourbon, good wines, and other examples of exceptional craftsmanship.
Six things I could never do without
Learning something new - wisdom is humanity's gift and curse.

Good friends - the most valuable commodity in this life.

The stars - to be reminded of our place in the universe.

Nature - what we come from, are sustained by, and will return to.

Sunny days - to feel the world smile.

The future - change makes the present precious.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
...why it seems like half of the OKC population has the exact same picture of themselves in front of Machu Picchu. I've never been there, but its hard to imagine that there's only one camera angle to pick from.
On a typical Friday night I am
...chatting with you over craft beer, fancy drinks, or scotch that's as old as we are.
...twirling you on a dance floor.
...wrapped up in a sleeping bag with you, watching the stars.
...cuddling with you in the corner booth of a swanky jazz club.
...doing something that you suggested.
You should message me if
You want to go hiking/backpacking/camping/mountain biking/kayaking together.

You want a travel buddy.

You much prefer meeting people in person than trading messages forever.

You have a suggestion of something awesome we should do together.
