I am a compulsive designer, a master of code, a creator of worlds, an encouraging dad, a business owner, a reader, a writer, and a game developer. Whew!
I also develop video games - one of my games is even published on the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U (with a PS4 and PSP version coming soon!), and I've been known to dabble in a few other things, like writing - I used to write for a popular webcomic, and recently started working on a new one.
I'm the parent of an awesome 9-year-old who, inspired by her old man, has been teaching herself coding, and has been working on her own game designs.
I'm always working on several different amazing projects.
I'd also say that I'm great at solving problems, and being a parent.
My absolute favorite author is Terry Pratchett (I have the complete Discworld series, which I end up re-reading a LOT!)
I also enjoy Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicle, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, some non-fiction, like Neil deGrasse Tyson, graphic novels like classic Batman, Green Lantern, and Tin Tin, oh and Squirrel Girl is a recent favorite.
I like to watch a lot of movies and things. I end up watching a lot of YouTube and Netflix just because it's nice to have on in the background while I'm working on stuff.
I follow stuff like the Super Beard Bros, Yogscast, Hat Films, Game Grumps, Continue?, the Game/Film Theorists, and a bunch of 'brainy' stuff, like It's Okay To Be Smart, SciShow, Today I Found Out, etc.
I have a crazy taste in music, too: Electric Six, the Protomen, Mega Ran, Ninja Sex Party, Disasterpeace, and a lot of game soundtracks.
Plus I'm a huge fan of the good, good McElroy Brothers, and company, especially MBMBaM, the Adventure Zone, and Car Boys. 👋👋
I am a serious advocate for game development - I think everyone should try making games in some capacity!
St Louis has a surprisingly large, and supportive community of game developers, and game development enthusiasts.
I spend a lot of time going to Meetups, attending talks (and giving them), participating in Game Jams, working with the community to build awareness, and get more people interested in making games.
Catch me the rest of the week for Board Game night, collaborative coding night, GameDev Drinkups, Meetups, and whatever other fun stuff I can think up.
If this is something you might be interested in - and you think you can keep up! - get in touch! I want to hear from you!
Oh, and if you're concerned because I have a kid - don't be. If you liked any of what I had to say, you'll have no trouble with her - she's somehow even more likeable than I am ;)
