My self-summary
Im interested in finding new existential books/films/TV, new music, pushing the cause of social justice and trying to ride my bike more. I'm in an open relationship, and I'm hoping to meet interesting people. Loads of people seem to be listing their MB type, so- I'm an INFP. I also have two amazing partners at the moment, so I'm using OKC to meet cool people and find short term flings. Ideally I'd like to meet cool people who are open to short term flings. I'm pretty goddam white, tomato sauce was the height of my childhood culinary diversity, and I do my best to be aware of what my privilege gives me and what it blinds me to.
What I’m doing with my life
Helping people make sense of the senseless. Being an SJW & getting paid for it. Wondering if I should go travelling for a while. Wondering if I should do a total rewrite of this profile cos most of it is about 5 years old
I’m really good at
Conversation? Hello-ness and hi what's new?
I do enjoy considering a complex issue in the context of respectful discussion, regardless of what the topic might be
Filling in forms. Taking photos. Talking about things I know little about with people who know a lot about them.
The first things people usually notice about me
Hello Beard!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Here is my attempt to show you that I have taste...
Books- sci-fi & fantasy stories, although I'm a but fussy. I prefer the fantastic elements of the story to serve a narrative purpose, rather than a shoot-em-up with swords or lazers. Authors like Katherine Kerr, George RR Martin, JRRT, ursula le guin, China Miéville, Phillip Pullman, Phillip K Dick
Philosophy & science are another favourite subject, Richard Dawkins, Brian Greene, Daniel Kahneman...
Classics- authors like Woodehouse, Joseph Conrad, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Steinbeck,
I read some Australian fiction as well, I really dig Tim Winton, John Birmingham & the Black Inc short story compilations.
I listen to Radio National often. It's better than you think it is. Otherwise, BBC radio4, tripleJ, Koori radio, FBi...
Movies: until recently, anything Woody Allen before h̶i̶s̶ ̶i̶n̶n̶o̶c̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ ̶g̶o̶t̶ ̶l̶e̶s̶s̶ ̶c̶l̶e̶a̶r̶ I figured out he may make interesting movies but he may be one of the worst humans alive.
Recently I've watched Moon, Cloud Atlas. Genres- dystopian cyberpunk, indie comedy.. I tend to avoid overly confronting films because i do confronting stuff all day at work.
TV: classics like Black Books, Monty Python... I watch Carl Sagan's Cosmos often. I'm ambivalent about Game of Thrones- a great story yet maybe too heavy for a weekly TV show.
Comics: Oglaf, xkcd, I used to enjoy the walking dead but issue 100 killed it for me
music: against me!, Bruce Springsteen, Chumbawamba, the Beards (yes- how many different ways can you sing about beards? Not enough!) , billy Bragg, Amanda palmer/Dresden dolls, the herd, the Levellers, nick cave, nina simone, nofx, Paul Dempsey, Patrick Wolf, Paul Kelly, refused, rocket science, tism, Tom waits, Tim Minchin, the whitlams
Six things I could never do without
So as not to sound like a soft westerner, I'm going to preface this list with a disclaimer: if I had to live without these things for a whole week I'd find it difficult but I'm sure I would survive somehow
My awesome partner
My iPhone
Mexican takeaway food
My cats
Contact with friends
If you took away one or two, I'd be drawing on the others a lot more. Take away all six? A total mindfuck.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
architecture, social justice, spacetime, existential philosophy, science fiction...
Going back to visit Damascus, if there is anything left.
On a typical Friday night I am
With friends, having a drink in places around the inner city & inner west
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
You're looking at it...
You should message me if
You're okay with me being in a committed open relationship with my partner. You're looking for more than a fuck and less than a lifelong love.
You want to meet up, get along and see what else happens.
You enjoy conversation, debate, drinking, & social justice.
Queer, fluid or diverse are words you think go with words like sexuality, gender or identity.
