My self-summary
A generally reasonable person. More dry than sarcastic, although also sarcastic.
What I’m doing with my life
I was a software developer for a long time, but I like working with people, and there got to be less and less of that. After a bit of a break to reevaluate things, I decided to take a class to try to get back into technology on the product end, hoping that lets me use my technical experience and talk to people at the same time.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have red hair. I get told that by strangers a lot. Once in a while, they tell me I have big eyes, instead. Those people, I wonder about.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I tend to read a lot of detective fiction. Rex Stout is probably my favorite author; I've finished reading all the Nero Wolfe stories, and find myself regretting he "only" wrote them for 40 years. Also fond of Ellery Queen, Dashiell Hammett, Alexander McCall Smith, and, of course, Arthur Conan Doyle. Also tend to like the movies and television based on their work, even loosely — although, to bring it up preemptively, I really dislike "Sherlock". On the other side of the equation, I could probably happily watch "The Thin Man" (and the sequels) on a loop.

My favorite movie is probably "Blazing Saddles". I also like a lot of classic stuff — the aforementioned "The Thin Man", "North by Nortwest", "Casablanca", "The Maltese Falcon", "His Girl Friday" come to mind offhand.

I've cut down on TV viewing a lot over the past year. These days, if I have the TV on, I'm mostly just watching Food Network (a lot of "Chopped) or Animal Planet (I really like "My Cat From Hell", God help me) in the background while I'm working on something else.

I was a vegetarian for nearly 20 years, but realized last year it wasn't really important to me anymore and decided to start eating meat. I still eat a lot of vegetarian meals out of habit and preference, but I'm definitely omnivorous now, which, I have to admit, does a lot to make eating out easier.
Six things I could never do without
People (and/or Parrots)
Peculiarities (?)
Pleasant things (?)
I think I ran out of "p's" after four (really, after three — "plumbing" is pretty weak), but if I'm going to answer this question, I'm having some sad fun with it.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What the hell is going on in the world and what does it mean and does any of it really matter? Will I move to New York? Would my bird be ok with my parents? If I'm really that much more political than the average person on this site, the average person on this site has never once had a political thought; really?
