My self-summary
Geeky but adventurous? Philosophical but whimsical? Adjective but adjective?

I love learning new things, trying new things and doing new things. I don't really care about being cool, so hipsters beware!

I'm a music geek: I own too many CDs. I love Pink Floyd. And Stravinsky. And Prince. And other stuff, too.

I'm a sceptic. I dig Joseph Campbell.

I once wore sunglasses, rattled a Coke can and shouted "Money for the blind" while in my wheelchair when I was about ten. I was in a shopping centre parking lot. Some would argue that I haven't grown up since.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm currently doing my PhD in computer science, focusing on computational biology and other geeky but interesting stuff. I'll only bore you with the details if you ask. :)

My goal for 2013 is to get some fiction published. (This is on top of my already busy schedule, of course.)
I’m really good at
Bizarre conversations, creative pursuits, solving puzzles, remembering useless trivia, making a fool of myself.
The first things people usually notice about me
1. My disability, obviously (Muscular Dystrophy)

2. My charming wit and stunning good looks

3. My humility
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I love, love, love Lewis Carroll’s Alice books and Dune by Frank Herbert; I’m currently reading the excellent A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge. In my misspent youth I was a big fan of Stephen King, but I rarely read his stuff these days.

Non-fiction favourites include things like Godel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter and The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell.

Movies: Anything that's quirky without being too pretentious. The Big Lebowski, Brazil and Star Wars are all films I've seen countless times.

Music: I'm a rock kind of guy, mainly listening to progressive rock and New Wave. Favourite bands include Yes, Pink Floyd and The Cars.

TV: At the moment, my favourite shows are The Colbert Report, Breaking Bad, Futurama and Justified. My all-time favourite series, however, has to be Carl Sagan’s Cosmos.

Foods: the odd bit of Italian, Indian, Mexican, Thai or Russian usually suits me well.
The six things I could never do without
1. family: really, family is important to me, despite minor gripes.
2. friends: it goes without saying
3. music: I'm pretty much guaranteed to be listening to music at all hours
4. computer: I work in computer science, so...
5. books: anything geeky will do
6. movies: high-brow, low-brow, whatever.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Besides my study, I spend a lot of time thinking about life: its challenges, its rewards and how people often choose to hide from it instead of actively pursuing it.

I also think about the quickest path to becoming a supervillain. Alas, finding private funding for a doomsday device is not as easy as one would hope.
On a typical Friday night I am
Relaxing by watching a movie or at a concert somewhere. Or talking someone's ear off.

Or out on a killing spree.

Actually, that last part is a joke. I do my killing on Thursdays (but only after I do my laundry, of course).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm actually a pretty normal person.
