My self-summary
Last summer I made one of those shockingly-sudden, life-altering decisions, left Massachusetts, and ended up in the Bay Area after a seriously Dionysian road trip. Oakland's been cool so far, but things have been tapering off for me lately in the meaningful-interactions-with-interesting-new-people department, ergo OkCupid.

Things I like: stupid jokes, intelligent discussion, smiling at good art, laughing at bad art, fancy food, shitty food, keeping up, and cautious optimism.
What I’m doing with my life
Working in freelance video production when I can. Serving coffee otherwise, for the time being.

Also trying to become a better guitar player / slowly approaching the threshold at which recording/performing would elicit some genuine satisfaction.
I’m really good at
Listing too many movies / bands (Killdozer? seriously?). Fruitless brainstorms. Comfortable silences. Being a reasonable human being. Staying up late.
The first things people usually notice about me
Impressions I make depend pretty heavily on social context / blood alcohol content, so it's hard to say.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Even though this is section is large as hell and probably at least 2/3 of my profile word-count-wise, being into similar stuff is not a huge deal for me. I just have trouble with lists.

Here are some great, totally edifying movies that I like:
Solaris, Ran, The Warriors, Alien(s), The Virgin Spring, Le Samourai, Apocalypse Now, Brazil, Songs From the Second Floor, Veronika Voss, L'Age D'Or, Nashville, Holy Mountain, Being There, In the Mood For Love, Once Upon a Time in the West, Blade Runner, Network, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, 2001, L'Eclisse, The Ruling Class, A Woman Under the Influence, Koyaanisqatsi, anything by Billy Wilder, von Trier, the Coens.

And the trash (usually enjoyed with friends, beers): campy 70's horror, cheesy 80's action, 90's cyberpunk scifi, (s)EXPLOITATION. Also bizarre/sublime Japanese anything.

Music: Beat Happening, Big Black, Brian Eno, Built to Spill, A Certain Ratio, The Clean, Eric's Trip, Essential Logic, The Fall, The Feelies, Fela Kuti, Galaxie 500, Guided By Voices, The Gun Club, Hüsker Dü, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Joy Division, Kate Bush, Killdozer, Meat Puppets, The Men, Michael Jackson, My Bloody Valentine, New Order, Oblivians, OMD, Pavement, Pere Ubu, R.E.M., The Replacements, Scott Walker, Sebadoh, Sonic Youth, The Talking Heads, Townes van Zandt, The Velvet Underground, Wire

Books/authors (I tend to like expansive, satirical, magical, conspiratorial, absurd, gorgeous, existential, goofy, allusive, post-modern satire kind of stuff): 2666, The Man Without Qualities, J R, 100 Years of Solitude, Journey to the End of the Night, The Stranger, The Master and Margarita, Catch-22, Stanislaw Lem, Beckett, David Foster Wallace, Pynchon, Calvino, Borges, Lester Bangs

tv: The Larry Sanders Show, old Simpsons, Tim and Eric, Seinfeld, Mr. Show, Arrested Development, Kids in the Hall, Twin Peaks
Six things I could never do without
fiction, close friends, love for the world, hate for the world, ontological uncertainty, partying down
I spend a lot of time thinking about
music, movies, politics, the future, OkCupid profile revisions
On a typical Friday night I am
charming as hell
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I might have been a little bit drunk when I gave myself a haircut the other day.
You should message me if
you wanna wander around, share observations, make jokes, drink beers, teach me something cool.
