My self-summary
Right, give me a sec, just need to squeeze into this nutshell....

Hi I'm Niall! I am a sociable, creative and open-minded guy who loves spending time with friends, experiencing new things and generally being silly. Although I'm a musician with my head in the clouds my feet are firmly on the ground (even if it is a bit of a stretch sometimes...:) I have an active social life but it would be great to share the good times with someone special. I'm the type of person who really enjoys all the surprises and opportunities life's journey throws my way so if you fancy sharing some of the journey or just dancing at the crossroad, get in touch.

I got my house-mate Kat to write this so here it goes:
Niall is a charismatic guy with a real lust for life. He's very bright and always has something to say for himself on a variety of subjects. A charmer, a dreamer, a great guy who you are guaranteed to have fun with whether it's intense debate, cheeky banter or dancing the night away (in a variety of styles). Definitely something of a showman don't be fooled into thinking there's nothing below the surface, he's got a big heart and for the right lady a lot of love to give.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm on a journey of true-self discovery, exercising the courage to be as authentic as I can every day and in everything I do, exploring the power of my vulnerability, learning that, contrary to what the world told be until now, I AM good enough! I spend a lot of my energy delving into the shadows of my soul to shed the sorrow I've inherited from my ancestors. I try to notice my isms when they crop up and I try to be patient with my prejudices for I didn't ask for them. I'm especially interested in sexism as I believe it is the one thing holding humanity back from fulfilling it's full potential. As a man I might open myself up to derision for calling myself a feminist but I do see it as my duty to strive to become as best an ally to women as I can, even if it's purely for the purpose of experiencing just how world-changing we can be working side by side rather than in opposite camps.
I’m really good at
Throwing random stuff into a pan and making something tasty, going off with the fairies while playing my sax, smiling in the face of adversity, doing walkabout theatre as a granny at festivals, remembering little known yet interesting facts about obscure topics.
The first things people usually notice about me
The fact that I'm smiling at them (-:
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm not generally into Hollywood 'now you're happy now you're sad' type of production, I like a bit of subtlety in the feeling and imagery; things like Eternal sunshine, Amelie, American beauty, Cinema Paradiso, Donnie Darco. Delicatessen.

Foodwise I love most things and like trying new dishes, I'm a massive fan of cheese especially St. Agur and smoked cheese and I love cold cuts like salami, pate, smoked ham etc... especially with nice salted butter and crunchy baguette. I would say the picnic is by far my favourite form of eating, I try to be as veggie as I can but being half French makes it really hard (-:

As I said above, my choice of music is pretty varied but if I have to point out some favourites, here goes: Eels, Simon & Garfunkel, swing/ragtime & most electroswing, Presidents of the United States of America, Louis Prima, Alanis, Jacques Brel, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Laurent Voulzy, good drum'n'bass and dirty jungle... I'm rediscovering Dead Can Dance at the mo and discovering Amon Tobin, Erik Satie and Emancipator, very different artists but so beautiful in their own ways!! Favourite tracks at the mo has to be: and

As you can imagine, my reading is pretty influenced by my course so I'm going through a few at the same time including 'The Invisible in Psychotherapy and the Chamanic Cure', 'Humanising Psychiatry', 'The Drama of the Gifted Child', 'The Tibetan Book of Life and Death'. I'm generally more a fan of non-fiction than fiction but obviously, every now and then a book comes along that won't let me go til it's done with me (-:
Six things I could never do without
Sax and sex, friends, family and food, music, nature, nurture and the knowledge that no one really minds that I've put more than six items in this list (-:
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Ways of better understanding the world and myself, how to be more compassionate, how to resist going out for a pint and a boogie when I have to spoon-feed elders their breakfast at 7am the next morning
On a typical Friday night I am
Not sure if I have a typical Friday, the last few have included 'dinner and games', movie nights, teaching French, going out for a few too many drinks
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Through being a counsellor and getting counselling I've discovered the healing power of tears. There's nothing like a good cry to get rid of the blues :-)
You should message me if
...if you are looking for an authentic connection (wherever it takes us) rather than a prince charming.
...if you are on your own journey of true-self discovery and want to bring your true self to share the adventure of mutual uncovering, intimacy and transcendance
...if you are ready to believe that not all men are b****rds ;-)
...if you accept that true connection will bring your shadows into the light and see this as an opportunity to grow
