My self-summary
I grew up just outside of New Orleans and have lived in NYC for sixteen years. I still have a bit of an accent.

I'm a pretty laid back person and it takes a lot to rile me. That's not to say that I can't be passionate about the things I care about. I've been known to go on for quite a while about French New Wave Cinema, it's importance on 70's American film and it's ramifications on 90's Indie film.

My close friends have described me as a cynical optimist, that I'm worth the weird, and that I'm an ethically functioning grunge dad.

I have two teenage kids who live with me part time. They're the two coolest, weirdest people I know. Being their dad, and being a fantastic dad, is huge part of my life.

By the age of 25 I was married with two children and a career that could support a family of four in NYC. Fifteen years later I take jobs that are more creatively fulfilling rather than the highest paying, I'm looking forward to having a home office and guest room when my kids leave for college in the next few years, and I hope to meet someone who gets just as excited as me for a new Terrence Malick film or a My Bloody Valentine concert.

So yeah, that's my spiel.
What I’m doing with my life
Trying to figure out how to squeeze 36 hours into a day.

I work as a freelance editor cutting mainly commercials and music videos. I also have my own production company and I'm constantly working on at least one or two side projects.

I like to take meandering 20 mile plus bike rides through the city every week or so when the weathers nice. Not only is it my favorite form of exercise but it also reminds me why I love living here.
I’m really good at
Knowing a lot of useless knowledge about a lot of things, I'm basically a ringer when it comes to bar trivia. Giving advice to friends that I should probably take myself. Making people laugh. Fixing a damn good cup of coffee. Planning meals/parties/group vacations. Using either old fashioned phrases or good ole southernisms in typical conversations.
The first things people usually notice about me
If I had to guess, it's that I look younger than I am. I always say my age doesn't fit me. I look 5 years younger on the outside but feel 5 years older on the inside.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: Sonic Youth, Pixies, Mogwai, Kurt Vile, Primal Scream, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Oneida, The Rolling Stones, Mike Watt, Radiohead, Stereolab, The Flaming Lips, Archers of Loaf, Yo La Tengo, Spiritualized, Broken Social Scene, Jesus & Mary Chain, Public Enemy, Pavement, Courtney Barnett, Carseat Headrest, film soundtracks, My Bloody Valentine, Ty Segall, The Melvins, Daft Punk, Sleep, The Velvet Underground, etc....
I recently got a pristine first pressing of the Rolling Stone's Beggars Banquet for $25 that's my new "most prized possession."

I go see as many live shows as I can, usually a few a month.

Films: Kubrick, Truffaut, Malick, Aronofsky, Godard, Paul Thomas Anderson, Hitchcock, Tarantino, Coen Brothers, Sidney Lumet, David Fincher, Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Stan Brakhage, Edgar Wright, tons more and the movie Oscar with Sylvester Stallone. Seriously that movie cracks me up.

TV: The Knick may be the best filmmaking regardless of screen size. Community, Simpsons, True Detective, Archer, Goldbergs, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Mad Men, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Veep, Man Seeking Woman, The Daily Show - if I don't watch it the day it airs I won't watch it. I'm weird like that.

Books: Film Books, Don DeLillo, Michael Chabon, Kafka, Phillip K. Dick, Jim Thompson, Flannery O'Connor, Borges. A Visit from the Goon Squad & Super Sad True Love Story have been two of my more recent favorites.

Food: I really enjoy cooking and I'm not shabby at it, if I do say so myself. Nothing too fancy but good, tasty meals. I'm pretty much willing to give anything a try. I went vegetarian for a year in solidarity with my daughter and discovered that I could go without meat a lot easier than she could, though I really missed fried chicken.
The six things I could never do without
movies, coffee, nice weather, big old cities, guitar feedback, and of course my kiddos.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Various ideas for scripts, short films, music videos, etc.
How to replicate the traits of analog film into digital media with ease in order to manipulate it in unique ways.
Should I buy tickets to that band's show now or wait until it gets closer to the show? Usually I just break down and buy them now.
What was that thing I said to remind myself to do today?
On a typical Friday night I am
depends on the Friday night. Some nights I may be at a small, comfortable bar having a few beers with friends and telling stories. Another Friday I may be stuck at work trying to meet a nearly impossible deadline or at home writing away. I might have a few friends over to hang out. Or simply sitting on the couch watching a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
you mean other than having an appreciation for a Sylvester Stallone comedy?

I'm completely terrified of snakes. The lack of chance encounters with snakes is one of NYC underutilized selling points. Though I did have one slither pass me at the Bronx Zoo one time and almost had a heart attack.
You should message me if
The idea of hanging out with someone who is pretty comfortable with his life and likes doing things like going see bands, hanging out in small bars, or simply spending a lazy day curled up on the couch watching movies is appealing to you.
