My self-summary
So it seems that when you try to write a witty, charming and informative self-summary, it's very easy to get drawn to lame cliches like "I love good discussions." Well who doesn't love good discussions? They've got "good" right there in the name...

So here is my attempt to communicate some concrete things about me, and things that may not be true of other guys on this site:

I have a webseries that has generated over 90 million hits. I am an optimist and a romantic, and I refuse to believe that "nice guy" is a pejorative. I love history, as a natural by-product of loving stories. I strongly enjoy science, especially astronomy and anthropology. I don't drink, but that's purely a matter of not having found a drink I love. By my junior year of college, MTV had done a biography on me and I'd been interviewed as an expert on NPR's "Marketplace." I strongly dislike drama, and I am very skilled at diffusing it through the strategic application of logic and silliness. I love romance, and I enjoy making romantic gestures like planning special evenings and cooking dinner, (I can make a mean Dover Sole, and my garlic bread is top notch!).

I am very ambitious, and I'm very attracted to ambitious women. I am also very open with my compliments: I won't say it if I don't mean it, but if I mean it I will tell you. I like swing dancing, and I think 30's and 40's fashions make women look more beautiful than I can describe. I hate receiving back rubs and foot massages, etc, but I enjoy giving them, so it's always the girl's turn. I like traveling and exploring, but I also like staying in and watching a movie, or even just hanging out and cuddling on a rainy day. (I also wish there were more rainy days in this town.) Sometimes I check out people with really high Enemy percentages on this site, just to see what their deal is. I love movies, almost any kind except for Saw-style horror; I'm a fan of italian, mexican and indian food; and sometimes I listen to Christmas music out of season just because I like the sentiment.

I'm also a big fan of silliness and humor, which I'm sure you can discern from the riveting list of dry facts that has preceeded this sentence... But seriously folks, I really enjoy a girl with a sense of humor, and I can generally match it. You know, when I'm not spending all my effort just trying not to sound like a damned fool...

As far as the normal, boring stuff goes, just shoot me a wink or a message and ask!
I’m really good at
making homemade garlic bread and cappuccino pie, making movies, explaining things with examples, listening, cheering people up, transmuting lead into gold, swing dancing, and picking the exact right movie or tv show for the evening's mood.

One of those wasn't true.
The first things people usually notice about me
At first glance, probably that I'm tall. If we're talking about people's first impression of me, though, I asked my roommate and he told me to put "that you can get anyone excited about anything."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - Ender's Game, the Mars trilogy, Harry Potter (just recently read them), The Years of Rice and Salt, Lord of the Rings, the WorldWar series, the Timeline-191 series, and many others.

Movies - SO MANY. The first few that come to mind: Independence Day, It Happened One Night, The Avengers, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Dark Knight, Ghostbusters, Holiday Inn, White Christmas, Back to the Future, Iron Man, Love Actually, and many, MANY others.

Shows - I used to watch mostly the History Channel, but during college I realized that if I was going to work in the "film and television" industry, I needed to be able to speak intelligently about shows like Friends and The West Wing, etc. Since then I've Netflixed my way through Friends, The West Wing, Buffy, Lost, Dexter, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Community, Scrubs, Sherlock, Sports Night, Star Trek TNG, How I Met Your Mother, Doctor Who, and countless others. My favorite TV show of all time would probably be Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. If you haven't seen it, let me know and I'd love to show it to you!

Music - Christmas music, followed by basically everything else except death metal... Most of the time I end up listening to movie soundtracks, but I can enjoy almost anything.

Food - Italian, Indian, Tex-Mex, breakfast, etc.
The six things I could never do without
1) Movies
2) Garlic bread
3) Ambition (for myself and from others: I love getting excited about my friends' plans)
4) My AppleTV
5) Wanting to hit the "snooze" button, and being able to
6) Curiosity (That sounds really generic, but seriously, I am constantly wondering about the details of things I see and people I encounter).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
big ideas, like the nature of consciousness or the relative merits of chocolate vs coffee ice cream. These are the questions that must be answered...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
When I was little, I once struck out at t-ball...
You should message me if
you are a passionate woman, and I mean that in both senses of the word: romantically passionate, as well as passionate about the things you enjoy. I like feminine women, but I hate people who confuse "feminine" with "passive:" a strong, capable woman who can go blow for blow with me in a debate is the sexiest thing in the world. I love affectionate women, and I'm more than happy to return the favor. I'm a nice guy, so while I love good banter, I'm looking for a girl who also enjoys being sweet sometimes, and who enjoys having a sweet guy. Nerdiness is well-appreciated: even if I don't enjoy your favorite TV show or novel I'll think it's cute that you love it so much. (And let's be honest, I'm probably going to geek out alongside you if it's really that good.)

I value hopeless romantics far above cynics, and if you like wearing dresses, either in day-to-day life or during a night on the town, then all the better! Most of all, I'm looking for an equal. Romantically, intellectually, artistically, all of it. The old idea of having to feign stupidity or pacificity to attract men is lost on me: I think smart, ambitious women are by far the most interesting.

If that sounds like you, drop me a line! And if you're still not sure that you've got a clear picture of me, send me a wink and I'll do my best to clarify the matter...
