My self-summary
Okay, I asked my best friend how to describe me, and she went with "compassionate, caring, inteligent and loyal." She also added "open-minded and sassy" after that. So I guess, imagine a friend of yours described a guy like that. Does he sound like someone you'd like to know?

I would describe myself as nerdy, with a gothic side. I'm an advocate of social justice and feminism, a tabletop gamer, a rambling storyteller, and a bit of a clown sometimes. I love the strange and the macabre, and I like to think of myself as a Gomez looking for his Morticia. Sadly, I'm not really that suave, but we all have dreams, right?

Please, feel free to message me. I'm a bit shy myself, so I really admire people bold enough to make the first move.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a customer service team leader, which mostly means I get to make people feel taken care of when they don't expect it. Part of the job involves training young people and helping them develop professional and interpersonal skills. It kind of lets me express my nurturing instincts, I guess?

At home, well, a while back I had to cut a number of toxic people out of my life, and that was rough, so I'm mostly focusing on reclaiming some stability and rediscovering life's little joys. It's not always easy, but overall I think everything is coming together.

I like to play and design tabletop games, especially RPGs, and I love getting new people into the hobby!
I’m really good at
Pattern recognition, being patient, communicating, anticipating needs and consequences, identifying and avoiding the asshole in a social group, imagining plausible reasons for people's behavior. I also make some pretty amazing pancakes!
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm told it's my dimples, or possibly my eyes. People also tell me that my smile is memorable. I guess I don't really know.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
These are all things I can get way too excited about and I love to share the things I enjoy. I love to expand someone's world, and I love to be introduced to new favorites. But okay, here are some of my lasting favs:

Books: The Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop. Almost anything by Neil Gaiman, Sarah Vowell, or David Wong. Lots of fantasy, especially vintage stuff. Greg Rucka's pulpy thrillers are my guilty pleasures.

Movies: Legend. L.A. Story. Lost Highway. Jackie Brown. Heat. Willow. Labyrinth. Almost any Marx Brothers movie. Scott Pilgrim. The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra.

Shows: Twin Peaks may be my absolute favorite. I love Game of Thrones, Jessica Jones, Breaking Bad, and Farscape.

Music: Violent Femmes, Tricky, Joy Division, and Rasputina are some of my absolute favorites. I have pretty broad tastes, though I do lean toward various forms of rock, and I don't have much appreciation for pop or country, most of the time.

Foods: Spaghetti, buffalo wings, New York-style pizza, breakfast burritos.

Podcasts/Radio Shows: Welcome to Night Vale, Prairie Home Companion, Out of the Fridge, The Shadow (especially the old Orson Wells episodes). I added this category because why not? More cool stuff we might enjoy together, right?
The six things I could never do without
Savory, not-very-good-for-me food
Netflix and YouTube
Tabletop games
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Daydreams. Human behavior. Stories I'll probably never get around to writing. Tabletop games, and the design of such. How vastly people's life experiences can differ, and how much they can turn out to have in common. How to explore non-toxic expressions of masculinity. How things in our lives can appear from an outside perspective.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually Friday is Netflix with one of my two best friends, or reading while my housemates play video games or something. Super-exciting, right?

I'd kind of like to break out of my routine more, but I also have to be somewhat budget-conscious for the time being, so I guess I'm more interested in cooking meals together than going out a lot.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm actually a mouse in a large mechanical suit, trying to take over the world.

But no, in reality I think I'm not a very private person. I mean, if you want to discuss kink, gender roles, polamory, mental health, pretty much anything, I'm kind of an open book. I try to let other people take the lead in setting the boundaries because I don't want to deluge anyone with TMI.

Here's something that I suppose anybody getting to know me ought to know: I've lived with depression for many years. It's mostly mild and manageable, and I'm generally an upbeat person for the most part, but sometimes it sucks.
You should message me if
Would you call yourself a geek? A goth? A feminist? A progressive?
Do you enjoy intellectual discourse? Do you enjoy being playful and weird? Can you shift between these two modes without warning?
Are you a mature person looking to build a stable future? Do you still maintain a childlike sense of wonder at the weird and beautiful world we live in?
If you're answering 'yes' a bunch, I'd really like to hear from you. You sound like the sort of person I'd like to know.
