My self-summary
Queer identified student here looking to meet interesting people.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a student at U of T (Mississauga campus), aspiring writer, lover of fiction, film, music and all things expressive. I also do activist/community-building stuff.
I’m really good at
I play guitar, I sing, I write, I photograph.
The first things people usually notice about me
My cynicism and contempt.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I have eclectic tastes.

Books are my refuge and creative well, and I read prolifically and with varying interest across genres. Fiction draws me most. I have a deep adoration for high modernist texts by Virginia Woolf like "To the Lighthouse" and "Mrs. Dalloway". Tolkien had a huge influence on me in my youth, and likewise did I enjoy the works of J. K. Rowling. I love Gothic fiction, and the likes of Emily Brontë, Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, H. P. Lovecraft and M. R. James figure prominently in my library. I have great reverence for Richard Matheson, Anne Rice and Stephen King. Recently I've become enamoured of detective fiction, from Arthur Conan Doyle to Dashiell Hammet to Chester Himes. I am an aspiring fiction writer and story telling in this medium holds great passion for me and always will.

Movies are my secondary love after literature, and I'm an enormous junkie for them. Some of my favourite directors are Woody Allen, Stanley Kubrick, Pedro Almodovar, Martin Scorcese, Noah Baumbach, Francis Ford Coppola (and his daughter Sofia), Quentin Tarantino, Ang Lee, Ridley Scott, George Romero and oh, so many more. I find something to love in almost any film. I think I'm just in love with the medium. I go to the movies every week and it is a necessity to me. I'm like Mia Farrow's character in "The Purple Rose of Cairo" - I sustain myself upon the cinematic escape. Lately I am drawn again and again to independent cinema, and foreign films, but I love the blockbusters as well. Also, I'm in love with Sigourney Weaver.

Musically I have a hard time finding others that share my inclinations. I really love Jazz music, and the Blues. I idolatrize the great Jazz singers: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Nat King Cole and Louis Armstrong. I'm really into musicians/composers/bandleaders like Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Mingus. I have an ear for classic rock too like Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Queen and of course The Beatles. I adore David Bowie to no end. Joni Mitchell is a genre of her own and the artist I listen to the most these days, endlessly, repeatedly, from her expansive and distinctive discography. She is a true inspiration to me and her poetic lyrics and unique harmonics are without comparison. I also love Eurythmics and Annie Lennox (there isn't a song Annie has sung that I'm not familiar with), as well as Madonna, Alanis Morissette, Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey. I adore Robyn. My tastes are ever expanding...

I love television, and especially what some call the "golden age" of it in which we presently find ourselves. The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Weeds, Nurse Jackie, True Blood, Veep, United States of Tara, The Big C, Mad Men, The Walking Dead - I love them all. I am also a deep and loyal fan of The Simpsons and always will be. I enjoy the Seth MacFarlane helmed cartoon sitcoms as well. I love Star Trek too, every series, but especially The Next Generation and Voyager. Seinfeld is a staple. Cheers and Frasier I could watch forever.

In terms of food I'm an adventurous eater up to try virtually anything. I'm very flexible. I've gone vegetarian before so vegetarian or vegan options are easy for me to adapt to. There was a time when I was interested in the culinary arts.
Six things I could never do without
Books, films, music, art, the company of others, and solitude.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend a lot of time thinking.
On a typical Friday night I am
Listening to Joni Mitchell and learning to sing and play guitar like her as much as I can with my comparatively archaic gifts.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm leftist, queer, anti-racist, deeply critical of capitalism. I abhor homogeneity, false modesty, and disingenuous happiness.
