Alfred Tennyson once said that it was better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. With no disrespect to the man, I disagree. It's more painful to have known the bliss of emotional intimacy and personal connection with someone and then continued your life from then on.
I've tried for years to get closer to women offline and while my company is never treated with anything other than warmth, no woman has ever looked at me with that same peace and comfort my former girlfriend once did. Speaking of whom, she has dated many people since we broke up while I have not. Which is not a remark against her, I must stress, I'm glad she's happy. It does though, bring the state of my own love life into sharp relief.
Thus I turn to okcupid once more. The site has yet to yield any result beyond an initial conversation and then never hearing from someone again but I've never worn cynicism well so I'll give this another shot.
Alas the same challenge that plagued my first profile persists years later. Trying to describe myself is like trying to describe the back of my own head. It's me but it's un-observable without assistance. Indeed the quest to understand myself is a large portion of what I spend my mental energy on.
That being said allow me to at least attempt an accurate description of myself. Passionate, creative, affectionate, warmhearted, good listener, optimistic. Perhaps a few keywords are not really enough to get a feel for what a person is like but I hope they at least indicate whether even conversing would be something you would want to do.
Lastly, if I might request, please message me if you have actual interest. I'm not a paid subscriber so I can't see the "likes" I receive. I promise that I will respond and be gracious whether the interest is returned or not.
