My self-summary
A friend/colleague said I was great at telling stories. Funny, I never saw myself that way. It's nice when you can still be finding out stuff about yourself after 4+ decades. I certainly like to talk.

I like this quote: "Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies." Not sure where this belongs in my profile, but there you have it.

Random thought: Intimacy is sexy.
What I’m doing with my life
Waking up every day and feeling it's great to be alive. Though midwinter can test that mood setting from time to time.

More factually, I am a writer, mostly working in advertising, with some travel writing as a sideline. Self employed and loving the freedom of being my own boss.
I’m really good at
Bending my hands back until my fingers touch the inside of my wrist. Can anyone out there match this feat of double jointedness?

Also quite good at trivia and scattered morsels of knowledge.
The first things people usually notice about me
I like to amuse.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Far too many to list. But here goes - semi random fashion:

Books - a lot. 19th century classics, biographies, history, NZ writers. I always have a stack by my bed.

Films - indie, foreign, anything imaginative that takes me out of the everyday. Subtitles are no problem. Being self-employed gives me the indulgence of taking time off to see films during the day, especially during the annual NZ Film Festival.

Music - selected 80s pop, indie alternative, oddball nuggets from the 60s, live orchestral music. Not huge on country, hip hop or death metal. I am really over auto tune vocals - robots with vocoders.

Food - Italian, authentic asian, basically anything made with soul and good ingredients. I'll pass on dessert and have a starter 9 times out of 10.
Six things I could never do without
Great coffee, intimacy, art, the touch of a warm hand, the ability to travel, poetry.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My bucket list. Top of it is a really nice galvanised number. Then I'd like to accumulate some sturdy plastic pails in cheery colours.
On a typical Friday night I am
Preparing for my forthcoming assault on K2. Or more likely, opening a bottle of pinot noir.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'll admit just about anything but not necessarily on a public internet forum. But ask away...
You should message me if
you feel like it. Go ahead - just do it!
