My self-summary
I'm Jon, a grad student at Tufts University, studying Mathematics. I am an ENORMOUS nerd, let me make that clear right off the bat. I love roleplaying games, fantasy/sci-fi, anime, video games, and especially anything made by Joss Whedon. My idea of a good time runs the gamut from a day at home gaming or watching movies, to getting together with some friends for a round of board games, to just taking a bike ride around town.

I'm currently doing research for my PhD, and then hoping to find a professorship here in Rochester. I like teaching mathematics more than the research, and currently work as an adjunct at my alma mater of RIT.

My wife SheWolf04 and moved back home to Rochester in the summer of 2016, and love being back here with our friends again. She was born here, I went to college here, and it is definitely home for us. We now have a wonderful house in Pittsford Village, and I love taking our weird looking dog Stephen on walks along the canal.

I love tabletop gaming of any kind, though my biggest love is for RPGs. I do most of my gaming either at home or at Just Games in Penfield. I also try and do some writing in my spare time (sometimes related to my gaming addiction, sometimes just my own random stories). I play video games, mostly RPGs, but I'm willing to try just about anything if there's fun people involved. I love just sitting around watching movies/TV shows, but also enjoy going out, though I'm not much of one for the bar/club scene. Anywhere with an extensive craft beer list is sure to interest me. I also spend plenty of time studying mathematics, whether for research or just to pass the time.

As for other fun activities, I'm not a terribly physically active person, but that doesn't mean I'm a total couch potato either. I ride my bike places whenever I can, I love hiking on trails, and I'm looking to get back into archery. At least I love doing these things with fun company.

I am a nerd, weird, and amusing.
What I’m doing with my life
As I said, I'm a mathematics grad student at Tufts University, though now just doing research down here. For me, that mostly consists of drawing lots of pictures of very strange looking squares. (WARNING - If you ask me about my research, be prepared to lose a significant chunk of time as I flood you with mathematics. Sorry in advance.)

I style myself as a bit of a writer, though when it comes to being creative I seem to have a horrible case of ADD. I've started dozens of short stories, but only ever managed to finish 2 in the past few years. I keep getting distracted by something else, find I'm too busy and the like. Now that my life seems to be running much more smoothly than it was, I'm hoping I can change that. I really love writing, even if its just fun adventure tales, and want to get better at it. My biggest influences are Robert E. Howard, Alexandre Dumas, and the countless other swashbuckling tales I've read over the years. I'd love to have something of mine actually published, or at the very least turned into something with readership, like a webcomic or something.

I am also a bit of a game designer in my spare time. I have written a setting for Savage Worlds, which I plan on eventually releasing for purchase. Most of my roleplaying time lately is devoted to playtesting that game, with anyone willing to sit down and roll some dice.
I’m really good at
Well, I'm not half bad at math and science, I do my best to be a good listener and shoulder to cry on, and I'm a damn good cook, though my range isn't that wide (mostly Italian, Levantine, Mexican, and my somehow decent attempts at Asian cuisine). Except for my orgasmically good cheesecake or something made from a box, you probably don't want me baking you anything. My cooking style is very fast and loose (a pinch of this, a splash of that, its done when its done) and this doesn't work well for baking. I've also recently started brewing my own beer, which has been a really fun experience. I also try to be helpful to my friends if possible, though how good I am at that probably depends on how I'm helping them. Oh yes, and my encyclopedic knowledge of random bits of crap no one cares about (Did you know your foot is as long as your arm, from your wrist to your elbow?).
The first things people usually notice about me
Normally, the scene I'm probably making (I tend to goof off a lot). Also, if you've gotten up the courage to approach and talk to me, all the crap that keeps spewing from my mouth. I talk a lot. And I mean A LOT.

Also, depending on my mood, it might be the random ruckus I'm making. As an example, there was a day some time ago when I was biking home from work. There was a car stopped at a red light with a bumper sticker I thought was really cool (No I don't remember what it was). So I knocked on the guy's window, motioned for the driver to roll it down, and told him how awesome the bumper sticker was. I said goodbye and continued on my way.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - fantasy and sci-fi for the most part, with my favorites being Jacqueline Carey, Raymond Feist, Jim Butcher, Terry Goodkind, and George RR Martin. Lately I've also been exploring more classic authors, notably Alexandre Dumas, Robert E. Howard, and Arthur Conan Doyle. Honestly, if someone tells me a book is fun, has some dry humor in it, and a decent story, I'll probably give it a whirl. I used to be a HUGE doorstopper epic fantasy kind of guy, but lately I'm favoring smaller scale tales, with some exceptions.

Movies - Same tastes, but also toss in superhero flicks, somewhat intelligent action movies (Indiana Jones - Yes, The Fast & The Furious - No), romantic comedies, anything by Kevin Smith (37, and if you get that, please message me), and some horror. My all time favorite movies are High Fidelity, The Empire Strikes Back, Serenity, Clerks, and The Avengers. I also enjoy attending Rocky Horror every now and again.

Also, as stated above, I'm a huge Joss Whedon fan. I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse, and watch anything of his I own on DVD on a fairly regular basis. Not to the point of insanity, in my opinion, but every now and then. It gets my creative juices flowing to watch a genius of story and dialogue at work.

As for other genre shows, I also love Farscape, Game of Thrones, and Doctor Who (While I will always love David Tennant, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan just knocked it out of the park with their run on the show). On the comedy front, I'm a fan of Fresh off the Boat and Brooklyn 99. I also LOVE Agents of SHIELD.

Music - Other than modern rap (80s and some 90s stuff is ok) and country, I'm willing to listen to just about anything. My favorite genres are punk rock and ska. Top 5 bands are Suburban Legends, Dropkick Murphys, Reel Big Fish, Big D and the Kids Table, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. I'm also slowly but surely becoming a fan of classic rock, though I don't actually own any; when I want a fix of that I play Guitar Hero.

Other - Since there's no real place for it, I figure I'll put some info here on the types of games I enjoy. As mentioned previously, I really enjoy roelplaying games, especially those with strong historical influences. I'm also a big fan of board and card games, my top five being (in no particular order) are Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, Lords of Waterdeep, Small World, and Sentinels of the Multiverse.
Six things I could never do without
1. My computer

2. My dice (roleplaying nerd strikes again)

3. Food

4. My bike (I hate driving, its how I get around)

5. Being able to read

6. Desire
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Very strange and random things, changes all the time. I'm also usually thinking about various ideas for roleplaying games, even if I'm not currently running a game, as well as what to cook for dinner tonight, current topics and ideas of interest for my research, and hey is that a shiny nickel?

So ummmm, yeah. Random thoughts pretty much sums it up.
On a typical Friday night I am
If I was able to make plans, hopefully spending some time with friends. Knowing my kind of friends, this involves video games and/or rolling dice. Perhaps (and hopefully) both.

Otherwise, just at home, relaxing, and probably watching TV or a movie, or playing a video game.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Not really sure. I'm an open and honest person, so ask me anything and I'll answer.
You should message me if
You've read all that craziness and have not been sent gibbering into an asylum. honestly though, if you share any interests I have, send me a message.

I am married, so I'm just looking for friends to hang out with, especially people who share my geeky interests.
