My self-summary
My best friend recently described me as the most risk-taking person he knows and as having a very weak sense of boundaries. I prefer to think of myself as adventurous and broad-minded.
What I’m doing with my life
Pondering grad school.
I’m really good at
Coming up with nicknames for others that tend to stick.
The first things people usually notice about me
My height.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favorite books are The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolano, Fun Home by Alison Bechdel, Geek Love by Katherine Dunn, The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber, We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver, The Human Stain by Philip Roth and practically anything by Margaret Atwood, Paul Auster, Margaret Drabble, Anita Brookner, E.M. Forster, Andre Gide, Peter Hoeg, Jonathan Lethem, Ian McEwan, and David Rakoff. I used to love A.S. Byatt, John Updike, Ann Patchett, and Martin Amis, but less so as either they or I or both get older.

Some of the directors I like are Michael Haneke, Albert Brooks, Jean-Luc Godard, Eric Rohmer, Aleksandr Sokurov, John Cameron Mitchell, Luis Bunuel, Rene Clement and Powell and Pressberger. Also the seminal Parker Posey flick Party Girl.

I watch the same television programs as everyone else--Doctor Who, Mad Men, Girls, Breaking Bad, Weeds, Joss Whedon stuff, etc.

Once in college I was at a party, and a guy asked me what sort of music I listen to. I said, "Oh, you know, The Rolling Stones, The Violent Femmes, The Velvet Underground..." and he nodded and said, half to himself, "So Liz Phair." I found, and still find, that anecdote curiously telling, although what it tells, and about whom, I can't quite say.

I like all foods except sweet corn, but I particularly like sushi, cucumbers, cheese and lentil soup.
Six things I could never do without
My passport
The main study room at the library at 42nd and 5th
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Economic justice, sex, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, sex, race, sex
On a typical Friday night I am
either out getting drunk with friends, or in reading a book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm HIV+.

You're cool and you think I sound cool. And you're nice to waiters and other service types.
