My self-summary
Well, here I am. I have certainly learned a lot about life, love, relationships, and what's important over the last few years, and the most important thing I've learned is that the learning never stops.

I’m a very involved parent of two girls (9 & 10, 50%) but can’t make any more. Feel free to bring your own to the party though! Stable, respectful coparenting relationship with my ex. I also have a cat named Lulu and you must earn her love.

I’ve got a solid career that keeps improving. I love what I do and they take great care of me so I’ve got no reason to wander.

I never got fat and I vow to always stay in decent shape. I’m not a ripped gym rat Abercrombie boy, but I’m proud of the fact that I still have visible abs at age 43. I eat well and stay active. I certainly don’t require physical perfection but I do appreciate someone who values the same approach to life. Do not go gentle into that good night.

Motorcycles are my hobby and I’m passionate about them. Please be ok with that! I’m a safe and respectful rider though — I do it for how it makes me feel, not for an image or reputation or whatever. I’d love to bring you along or help you learn to ride on your own but it’s not a requirement!

In short, I'm ready (and eager) for the real deal. I love getting out, finding good food, having some drinks, etc., but I also really look forward to those jammie nights together on the couch surfing Netflix. It's a balance.

In the mean time, I've become pretty good at being single again and I think I can be a pretty good date! From throwing on a suit and going out downtown to a motorcycle ride in the mountains, I'm down. I make a mean Manhattan and I will cook for you!

I've been overseas a few times in the last couple years, and it rekindled my love of travel. Get your passport ready because we'll be planning something.

I got suckered into taking a Myers-Briggs test at a Canada Day party (yeah, that's right) and I'll be damned if it didn't absolutely nail me. Every. Single. Line. ISTP.

What I’m doing with my life
I work for NASA as a mechanical engineer and manager. I am way into my job, and as stressful as it can sometimes be, it's still fun and I'm even enjoying myself in some odd way when I'm working on the laptop at home late at night (don't worry, this is unusual). Probably because I'm in my underwear and sipping a Manhattan, but that's beside the point. I'm not a workaholic though, and draw as firm a line as I can between work life and everything else.

I thoroughly enjoy riding motorcycles, and I'd love to have you on the back for those early morning runs up the Angeles Crest for breakfast at Newcomb's Ranch or a sunset ride up the PCH. I'm mature enough (finally) not to ride like a hooligan everywhere I go and I'm not out to impress anybody or overcompensate for anything. Let's just enjoy the fresh air and the view!

I spend a lot of time with my girls doing fun family-type stuff. We go to museums, hike, cook, hit the beach like bosses, travel a bit, and generally goof off as much as possible.

I love to get outdoors when I can. It used to be for lengthy backcountry adventures, but lately it's been more along the lines of family camping with friends, a fun day hike, or a bottle of wine in the park. These days it tends more toward the quick getaway rather than the epic adventure. Weekend car camping is awesome.
I’m really good at
Fixing anything.

Spontaneous getaways.

Figuring it out.

Getting out of town for the weekend and doing something random with little or no plan.

Relaxing. Chilling. Spooning. Listening.

Solving problems, from emotional ones to that weird noise your car makes.

Parenting, which is my biggest passion and greatest challenge.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I generally appear to be relaxed, regardless of the situation or stress level.

Also probably, shortly thereafter, my work ethic. I know that's a weird one, but I'm proud of it. I get it from my dad :). The flip side of that coin is that I can have a hard time slowing down and relaxing, unless there's someone there to encourage me (hint, hint).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Easy Rider, Napoleon Dynamite, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, LOTR, Lonesome Dove, Caddyshack. I recently watched "No Country for Old Men" and when it ended I said out loud, "hey, wait, what the fuck?" which is a sign of a truly good movie to me.

Better Call Saul!

Netflix roped me in and I may need to get into some sort of rehab program. However, I'm all caught up on Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Mad Men, which has me wanting to do my hair better and drink more whiskey...but not smoke...or philander, at least not to such an extent.

Really great burgers and other red meat-related dishes. Pub-style fish & chips. I freakin' LOVE brussels sprouts. Good veggie food. Not super into sushi, but if I like you enough I can pretend. Train me! I recently ate octopus soup, and finished my bowl, because it was the socially-appropriate thing to do under the circumstances. I feel I am capable of anything now.

Most recent: The Martian, Wonderland Avenue, Monster, Crazy from the Heat. Richard Feynman (#1), Jon Krakauer, Carl Hiaasen. Sometimes things like The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and the Hunger Games trilogy to satisfy my pop-culture-y side. I recently wrote my high school English teacher asking for a reading list, so I can read the classics for pleasure instead of under duress this time around (update: holy crap he gave me a list that's going to keep me busy for years!).

There's always one big book that I'm reading to my girls, and currently it's The Lord of the Rings.

Royal Blood! Zep, Stones, Jimi, Ben Folds, Morrissey, The Smiths, The Cure, Duran Duran (extra points if you know where they got the name), LMFAO, Chemical Brothers, Ween, TMBG, Weezer, Beck, eminem, Dr. Dre & Snop Dogg, Jay-Z, Willie, Waylon, Kris, King Missile, New Duncan Imperials...

The Conet Project (not really music, but the weirdest, most mesmerizing, most intriguing thing ever)

Kids in the Hall (My pen!!!)
The six things I could never do without
- Love
- The outdoors
- Red meat
- Tools
- Freedom
- A comfortable helmet

(Of course my kids, family, air, food, water, shelter, and all that kind of stuff that people like to list here but that doesn't reveal anything about my personality)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
why women are so shocked when I open the car door for them. Why is this unusual?
On a typical Friday night I am
trying to get out. Watch the last episode of season one of Louis for some insight...some eerily-accurate insight. It's on Netflix and only 23 minutes long so go watch it instead of trolling that next guy's profile. He's probably got shirtless bathroom selfies anyway.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Well, I've probably said too much already -- I'll leave *something* for later at least. No need to scare everyone off right off the bat!
You should message me if
...you want to get out of the house for an evening.

...you have a sense of humor and you're not afraid to use it.

...you are an intelligent, friendly, fit, self-confident woman with an active life of her own but room to share it. Energy and passion are important to me, as are emotional maturity and honesty. Be independent but need me at the same time.

And ladies! You're not the only ones who get lame one-word messages. C'mon -- just because you wield all the power doesn't mean you shouldn't put some effort in!
