My self-summary
I was born on the edge of West Texas, on a small organic pistachio farm. We had sheep and chickens running around the property, yet we would listen to NPR broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera while we worked out in the fields. Some of my best memories are of eating fresh apricots from our fruit orchard and falling asleep in the shade of the tree when I had as many as I could eat.

Have traveled constantly since I left home at 17. I've lived for at least six months in: Quebec; Annecy, France; Oaxaca, Mexico; Leeds, UK, Morocco, Tunisia. Did my graduate studies in Nashville, taught in Florida, where I spent a lot of time at the beach, and am now embarking on a new adventure teaching English in Vietnam.

I love being outdoors, listening to great music, being by the sea, reading good books, eating great food with good friends, and drinking good booze. For me it doesn't get much better than a combination of all the above.
What I’m doing with my life
Teaching English to adults/working professionals in Vietnam. It's a bit of a departure from my previous work as a French professor in the US, but language acquisition is a universe of its own and one that I deeply love. Looking forward to continuing my academic research on the history and memories of cinema in the former French colonial world.
I’m really good at
Cooking, baking, gardening, dissecting a film, hiking, talking, canoeing/kayaking, daydreaming.

Six things I could never do without
Wine, coffee, the ocean, clear natural waters to immerse myself in, art-house cinema, my music.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to pickle, ferment, make better use of all the wondrous things that people should be eating, but typically discard. How to balance my desire to be connected with people thousands of miles away and those right next to me.
On a typical Friday night I am
Depends on whether or not I'm teaching, but the goal is to be doing something for myself. This could be at home (working on cooking/canning/fermenting projects) or out and about (going to see a cool film, some live music, enjoying a cocktail).
You should message me if
You like to grow / cook / eat well. You have great recommendations for things to do around Ho Chi Minh City and are interested in having a cool, open-minded, flexible person along for the ride.
