My self-summary
Hello! I'm a clumsy, goofy, scruffy-haired aberration who (despite all probability) just about barely manages this business of Being a Person. Tea, pixels, and hugs are my three principle sources of sustenance.
What I’m doing with my life
I graduated from UCC in 2011 with a BSc. in physics and applied maths, but I've made a fairly drastic change of direction since then in that I want to get into animation! I really liked studying physics, but I've always absolutely loved drawing. It's my first love, and the thought of not making a proper effort at pursuing it was driving me crazy.

It's what I wanted to study in the first place, but finding the courage to seriously consider it as a career took me a while. I finally decided to go for it - and since then I've been doing freelance illustration, preparing my portfolio, and generally trying my best to improve in preparation for an animation course I'll hopefully begin in Dublin next year. It's a big change from the path I was on, but I'm so happy I made it.

Aside from that, I like to spend time swimming, seeing friends, playing (mostly retro-ish) videogames, internetting, reading, and engaging in all sorts of other action-packed, involved pursuits - for example snoozing, and narcolepsy! I'm excitement incarnate*.

*Disclaimer: this is not, in fact, true. I once made a tortoise pass out due to boredom.
I’m really good at
Uncoordinated dancing, atrocious puns, even worse playing of musical instruments, knowing embarrassingly exhaustive amounts of Pokémon trivia, feeling overwhelmed about how adorable and wonderful other people and their interior worlds can be, believing myself to be a dinosaur of the species Sillysaurus Ridiculous, being twelve years old.
The first things people usually notice about me
Most people first notice my eyes, or maybe my hair, or that I'm a carbon-based, oxygen-dependent, bipedal life form. But, the second thing people usually pick up on is that where you might expect to find my left elbow, there's instead a nightmarish spatial rift; a swirling, unknowable vortex of madness into which all matter, meaning, and reality permanently vanish. I, uhm… I'm pretty self-conscious about it.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books; Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Little Prince, Neverwhere, lots more Neil Gaiman, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Great Gatsby, The Catcher in the Rye, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I also adore John Green's novels, especially The Fault in our Stars and Looking for Alaska. I just find his writing style so compulsively readable! Plus, I'm a nerdfighter, so I'm kind of contractually obliged to like him. Also, lots of graphic novels (mostly indie ones) and webcomics, like Anya's Ghost, Cucumber Quest, and Dresden Codak!

Movies; As you might expect from someone who wants to get into animation as a career, I love a whole load of animated movies! Some of my favourites include Kiki's Delivery Service, Up, Paperman, and The Secret of Kells. I like plenty of other movies too of course, like… Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, (500) Days of Summer, Moonrise Kingdom, Memento, etc.

TV shows; I'm a big fan of Black Books, Parks & Recreation, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Father Ted, Adventure Time, Breaking Bad (I can't believe how poorly Frankie Muniz has aged since Malcolm in the Middle! Maybe it's the facial hair), Gravity Falls, Arrested Development, Look Around You, and a few more!

Music; Oh wow do I love music. This list could get quite out of hand, so I'll try to restrict things to my absolute favourites. Alphabetised for your viewing convenience! Arcade Fire, The Beatles, Björk, Boards of Canada, Bright Eyes (and any associated groups), The Cure, David Bowie, Death Cab for Cutie, The Dresden Dolls, Emilíana Torrini, The Faint, Feist, Fever Ray, Gorillaz, Helios, Ladyhawke, M83, Metric, Modest Mouse, The Mountain Goats, Muse, My Bloody Valentine, The Naked and Famous, Nine Inch Nails, Plumtree, Pomplamoose, Radiohead, Regina Spektor, School of Seven Bells, The Smiths, Squarepusher, Sufjan Stevens, Tegan and Sara, Warpaint, The xx, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, 65daysofstatic.

In brief; I like relaxing, ambient, often electronically embellished music, frenetic, rhythm-heavy, rock-rooted music, and everything in-between! For further insight into my sonic sensibilities, there's also my Last.FM profile! I also sometimes like writing some music of my own, and I play the violin, drums, and love to sing (though, um… my proficiency with these different means of sound production varies from vaguely tolerable to utterly excruciating)!

Videogames; Wait a minute… this wasn't one of the categories specified in this section's header, was it? Damn right it wasn't, but I'm just going to include it anyway! Such is the extent of my anarchic, path-forging, untameable rebel heart. Here's a selection of favourites: Banjo-Kazooie, Beyond Good and Evil, Castlevania, Chrono Trigger, DDR, EarthBound, Eternal Darkness, Final Fantasy 6, Golden Sun, Half-Life 2, Kingdom Hearts, Kirby's Dream Land, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Paper Mario, Perfect Dark, Pokémon, Portal 2, Professor Layton, Project Zero 3, Resident Evil, Rock Band, Shadow of the Colossus, Silent Hill, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario 64, Super Metroid… lots of games, really! Though, I'm actually quite picky about what I play, since I generally dislike anything pointlessly, depressingly violent.

Food; Hmm… provided it's reasonably healthy and not comprised of, like, squid intestines, I'll probably like it! I'll eat meat sometimes, but left to my own devices I tend to avoid it… it can make me feel a bit icky with its occasional visible veins, and whatnot.
Six things I could never do without
Kindness and emotional warmth, the sense that the world's always going to feel like a wondrous place worth getting very excited about regardless of how familiarised I become with it, quiet places in which to listen to music and feel calm, long showers, quick naps, good friends.

And, um… the various cellular respiratory processes and squishy organic bits-and-pieces that keep my body going, I suppose!
On a typical Friday night I am
sobbing relentlessly. No, I mean, wait… the other one - "having fun", that's it.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm shy, and I want people to like me, so intense social situations can make me a bit out of my depth and inwardly focussed for fear of saying or doing something stupid that'll cause everyone to hate me forever and oh dear goodness help no.

This may cause me to stare at your feet a bit, but I'll probably compliment your excellent taste in footwear as a result (particularly if you're wearing nicely-coloured Converse), so, yay! That's a great style on you, seriously.
You should message me if
you're a cool and/or sassy human being who would like to hang out and be pals! Or maybe if for some bizarre, astronomically unlikely reason you think I'm kind of… cute, or something? Is that a thing that can happen?

Anyway, I'm not the boss of you. You go do whatever it is that makes you feel awesome about life and your part within it! If that includes writing me a message, then by all means feel free to do so! …provided it's not because you want to say cruel but factually accurate things about my face or how generally unviable my existence is, because that'd be mean.
The two of us
