My self-summary
I grew up near Boston, MA (USA) and went to a small liberal arts college in western, MA to study ecology, sustainable development, art, music, and Spanish (lived, studied, and worked in Costa Rica for 7 months). My dad is an actor and Tai Chi teacher and my step-mom is a yoga instructor... You could say I grew up in a very liberal environment.
A few years after college (and work in restaurants) I decided to go to culinary school and graduated with a culinary degree from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. I love to cook, play guitar, sing, listen to music, read, drink coffee, eat tacos, travel, wander, go out to bars, and meet new people!
What I’m doing with my life
I graduated in January 2013 and moved to San Francisco to kick start my career in the all-encompassing "hospitality" industry and going for my sommelier certification. But then. I crossed the Atlantic on a cruise ship were I was a guest chef teaching cooking classes and leading food tours. Now I'm living in Barcelona and taking each day as it comes and making plans as I go! I work as a free-lance writer and for a culinary school doing food tours and wine tastings.
I’m really good at
Playing guitar, singing, cooking (I think...), writing, public speaking, making friends, flirting, speaking Spanish, spinning things on my finger, using chop sticks, remembering faces, procrastinating, using my natural sense of direction, drinking beer before liquor, being disarmingly-comfortable with crazy street people, and playing ping pong
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes, smile, and height...and I talk a lot
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorite author: Ernest Hemingway. I love Hemingway so much even though I know the ending of his novels will most likely be depressing. Something about how his characters crave adventure and don't fear love, life, sex, or death makes me happy while at the same time leaves me with a pit in my stomach. I can't quite put my finger on it, but his books have deeply moved me.
I also like John Irving, John Steinbeck, Vladamir Nabokov, Dickens, Michael Chabon, Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Paulo Coelho, JRR Tolkien, Malcom Gladwell, Haruki Murakami, Jack Kerouac, J.K Rowling, George Orwell, Junot Diaz, MKF Fischer, Ken Kesey, Suzanne Collins, and Chuck Palahniuk. I really enjoy books about and by famous chefs (Jacques Pepin, Marco Pierre White, Anthony Bourdain, Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud, Marcus Samuelson, and Michael Simon)

Favorite movies : I love Woody Allen and I love those Wes Anderson movies as well Judd Apatow's stuff (Role Models!) and campy 80s and 90s comedy/adventure movies (Romancing the Stone and Princess Bride, anyone?). I like Snatch, and Fight Club, as well as pretty much any other movie with Edward Norton. Wet Hot American Summer, Big Lebowski, Lord of the Rings, some anime movies, and movies about music (Once, Rock Star, Almost Famous, School of Rock). Modern thrillers/action movies like Taken. I also like more artistic and foreign films (I really love the films by Pedro Almodovar and Guillermo Del Torro) Too many to name, but I rarely see something I don't at least like a little bit. Plus, of course, Harry Potter

Favorite shows: I don't have a TV, but I love Hulu. Also, I love Seinfeld! I watched every season, every episode, in order one summer! Last summer I watched Trailer Park Boys beginning to's addictive.
I have enjoyed most HBO series (The Wire, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire). I like Dexter, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, and Six Feet Under. Modern Family and Park and Recreation are hilarious, 30 Rock and The Office used to be. I loved Freaks and Geeks, Summer Heights High, and Portlandia. Spaced, Bob's Burger, and Archer are hilarious. I also thoroughly enjoy (without shame) Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. I like to watch food and travel shows (Eric Ripert, Anthony Bourdain, Daniel Boulud, Pressure Cook, etc).

Favorite Music: Can't Beat the Beatles, or Paul Simon, but I like most stuff, including, but not limited to classic rock/folk (Zeppelin, Hendrix, ACDC, Janis Joplin The Who, Creedence, The Band, Joni Mitchel, Neil Young, James Taylor, Tom Petty, Steve Miller, Aerosmith...), Soul and Blues (Al Green, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Taj Mahal, Joe Cocker, Dr. John, Black Keys), 90s rock (Blind Melon, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cake, Soul Coughing, Pantera), Jazz/Funk (John Coltrane, Soulive, John Scofield, Amy Winehouse, Medeski Martin and Wood, Tower of Power, The Meters, P-Funk), Folk (Wood Brothers, Mason Jennings, Greg Brown, Ray Lamontagne, Barton Caroll), Electronic/Pop (Foster the People, Phoenix, Passion Pit, Wax Tailor, Telepath) and hip hop (Biggie, Dr. Dre, Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Jay-Z, Hieroglyphics, Asher Roth, Jurassic 5, and others)

Favorite Food: Eggs are something I could never pass up. And cheese. And FUET! I love Mediterranean food. It's fresh, bright, and makes me feel great. Also, I often crave Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, or Japanese food. For fine dining, I enjoy Modern French-American, or "New American" food; bold, fresh, seasonal, local, and creative.
Six things I could never do without
guitar, tooth brush, beer, internet, music, salt
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life (too broad?) What this new chapter in my life will bring and how to balance career goals with my intense desire to have a rich, fulfilling existence...
On a typical Friday night I am
I almost always try and take advantage of a free night to go out around town, eat great food, have drinks and see friends. I have come to terms with the fact that almost all my money gets spent on the wonderfully intangible...Food, liquor, wine, music, the metro....
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I posed nude in my college's ridiculous Ultimate Frisbee team calendar. Nothing but cleats and a strategically-placed frisbee.
You should message me if
You're cute, fit, non-judgmental, open-minded, fun-loving, curious, confident, musical (tone deaf? It's not a deal breaker, don't worry), interested in good food and drink and the thorough enjoyment of said food and drink, and you appreciate a guy that sometimes has the uncontrollable need to be romantic :)
