Please note: If you are a dude and write me a message consisting of nothing more than "Hey, how are you?" or some such, do not expect a response. Nothing personal.
What I’m doing with my life
Facilitating healing through touch and presence, appreciating days when downward-facing dog actually feels like a resting pose, singing in the car, singing in the shower, singing in the kitchen, singing at lessons, singing in choirs and shows, collecting and reading as many books as humanly possible, cultivating mindfulness and deep diaphragmatic breathing, haunting bookstores large and small, listening to NPR, reading The Sun magazine, enjoying passionate somatoemotional responses to art/language/music/theatre/film/nature, imbibing and partaking of various vinous and herbaceous delights together with like-minded cohorts, blooming open my heart space, feeling grateful, dancing around my living room with my 9-year-old.
I’m really good at
proofreading. It's a curse. Can't turn it off.

Sensual/therapeutic touch (sensual touch can be therapeutic, therapeutic touch can be sensual; it's a question of intention and boundaries). Being aware of my body. Noticing minute details most people overlook (hence the Proofreader's Curse). Belly laughing. Chanting the OM. Moving gracefully. Being swept away by Shakespeare-induced giddy linguistic delight. Hedonistic pleasure. Enthusiasm. Using up ALL the space when I load a dishwasher. Utthita Trikonasana. Cleverly disguising myself as a responsible adult. Geeking out over anatomy and physiology. Using a dictionary. Singing kirtan and ecstatic dancing in a throng of sweaty yogis & yoginis.
The first things people usually notice about me
Human and female.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I am drawn to quality of craft and depth of expression rather than singular genres. I appreciate complexity, intelligence, cleverness, wit. Inasmuch as I am likely over-identifying with likes/dislikes to define myself, here's a sampling:

Books: J.D. Salinger, J.R.R. Tolkien, Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Kurt Vonnegut, Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma, The Botany of Desire), Ram Dass (Be Here Now, etc.), Richard Brautigan, Carlos Castaneda, Roald Dahl, Robert M. Pirsig, Kit Williams, Douglas Adams, Edward Gorey, A Beginner's Guide to Constructing the Universe, any kind of anatomy book, Russell Brand

Movies: Pride & Prejudice, Mystery Men, anything from Joss Whedon (Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, Serenity), Waking Life, Secretary, anything from Hayao Miyazaki (esp. Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle), Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, A Clockwork Orange, anything Kenneth Branagh does with Shakespeare, anything from Julie Taymor (Across the Universe, Frida, Titus), anything from Terry Gilliam (The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, Brazil, The Fisher King), anything from the Coen Brothers (Fargo; O Brother, Where Art Thou?; Raising Arizona), Wallace & Gromit, Blade Runner, Corpse Bride, The Princess Bride, My Dinner with Andre, anything from Quentin Tarantino, Rivers and Tides, Throw Down Your Heart and lots of other documentaries (y'know, for th' larnin' 'n' stuff), and anything with Russell Brand

TV Shows: all Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse), Weeds, The West Wing, The Newsroom, Slings & Arrows, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Doctor Who, Sherlock, The Office, Flight of the Conchords, Sex and the City, Northern Exposure, Twin Peaks, Star Trek: TNG, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, Brand X with Russell Brand (but I don't watch TV. Seriously.)

Non-TV Shows: Cirque du Soleil, Sweeney Todd, Hair, Chicago, Into the Woods, Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, Russell Brand

Music: mainly Jazz & Classical, Bobby McFerrin, Sting, Béla Fleck, Thomas Dolby, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kate Bush, Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Pat Metheny, Was Not Was, Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, Stephen Sondheim, The Bobs, The Police, Al Jarreau, Yes, Rush, Steely Dan, Elvis Costello, Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, Bach, Brahms, Nina Simone, Weird Al, Leonard Cohen, Weather Report, Dave Matthews, Russell Brand

Food: healthy and delicious, non-meat (except for Russell Brand)
The six things I could never do without
Things green and growing, music, breathing, positive human contact, books, laughter, movement. (I push against limitations and question authority. So, seven things.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
being here in this moment. And in this moment. And in this moment...

Quieting the chattering monkey mind (ironically, the opposite of thinking), mindfulness, centering and grounding, boundaries, muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, fascia, joint range-of-motion, adhesions and trigger points, what my hands are sensing in people's tissues, how everything is practice, training my larynx to be more like a basset hound and less like a Jack Russell terrier, my passionate theatre-geekiness, and Russell Brand.
On a typical Friday night I am
being mommy or socializing with friends or curled up with my Man and Netflix, sometimes in that order. Or, in costume backstage, waiting for my cue.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I revere intelligence and musical skill. I passionately enjoy radical departures from ordinary mental states. I periodically get sucked into Netflix Streaming Syndrome. I think scientists are sexy.
You should message me if
you are an open, sensual, loving, happy person seeking to cultivate fulfilling, growthful, healthy, relationships with spiritual, positive people, looking to build community and intimacy and increase pleasure and joy all around.
