Passionate, playful, silly, loving, sensual, dedicated...
Life to me is about showing up fully - being in the moment, feeling, growing, learning, and connecting, while also slowing down and enjoying the so-called "small" things and having fun doing it.
I'm known to say "mmmmmmmm" a lot...and "wow" and "yummy." Haha. I'm very expressive appreciative, and easily impressed with the natural wonders of life. I often say "thank you!" out loud to Life/the Universe/Spirit, in a way that would seem random and even crazy to some people.
I wasn't always so in love with life. I had a very limited, fixed mindset until my early 20s, and felt like I just wasn't good at most things, so I didn't try very hard. Now I see life totally differently and am soooo excited to explore and learn new things!
(Coming attractions, yet to be explored in depth...Surfing, Acro Yoga, Aerial Yoga, learning Spanish!)
I LOVE DANCING (especially ecstatic, contact improv, fusion, and blues...recently turned on to zouk), meditating, writing, reading, cooking, walking, snuggling, being with loved ones, practicing yoga (hatha and other forms), and listening to inspiring talks and recordings. I love being out in nature and I get to the mountains pretty often. I just started CLIMBING and I loooove it! Just indoor so far. Ooh, and I love Authentic Relating/Authentic Games/Circling/Relational Yoga (see authenticworld.org)
I focus quite a bit of time on holistic health and wellness, self care, and working on strengthening, flexibility, and general physical fitness, largely inspired by having dealt with some serious health issues over the years. I was diagnosed with MS when I was 24, and after years of varying levels of illness, have experienced healing that is nothing short of miraculous (Even my neurologist has been blown away...in near disbelief). There have been so many amazing beings and factors that have contributed to this and I am continually learning more. I'm excited to continue getting stronger and more deeply in touch with my body, heart, and spirit, tapping more and more into the amazing potential. I feel so blessed to be a vessel to help others explore this in their own lives. A lot of my work is with people who are dealing with chronic health conditions - helping them to find ways to flourish in mind, body, and spirit in whatever ways are possible for them (often far beyond what they've believed is possible). We can each have a deep and meaningful experience of life, even in the midst of difficult or seemingly limiting circumstances.
I have a coaching business, which I LOVE. Coaching doesn't really begin to describe it...It's based on LOVE, mindfulness, and holistic wellness, and more than anything is about holding space for people to feel fully seen and accepted as they are, getting in touch with the wholeness & perfection that is the essence of us all, and helping them to live more fully, deeply, and healthfully from that place of being/awareness. I also offer meditation and iRest / Yoga Nidra guidance and I love helping people to get started with, or go deeper with their practice...I won't get started here on the awesome power of meditation for shifting everything else in life...but WOW. It's foundational. Anyway, as of now I mostly work with people over Skype, which gives me a lot of freedom and flexibility. Yay!
I'm often asked if I teach dance and I've recently been exploring this -incorporating more movement into my "work" with people - largely focused on tapping into sensuality through self touch, dance, and co-movement. So many of us tend to be stuck in our heads, but even a little guidance and encouragement can help us to really feel into our bodies more consciously and move in beautiful ways...and wow...it feels amazing! Dance is not about looking a certain way, it's about FEELING it, tapping in and listening to how your body wants to move, and moving with that! YUM! There is a lot of conditioned "stuff" around pleasure and sensuality, but they are an essential part of your birthright! Tapping into these, from a place of openness, curiosity, and innocence, is beautifully liberating and will profoundly enhance your experience of life.
Oooh, and I recently got my Irish citizenship and EU passport! Ireland is another home to me, but then again home is everywhere. I used to live in Berkeley and I generally get back out to California at least once a year and Ireland at least every few years. It seems I'll be doing a lot more traveling in the next few years for teaching and I'm excited to see where that will take me and who I'll connect with along the way!
I fantasize about living closer to the land, growing most of my own food. I love having my hands in the dirt, my bare feet on the Earth. On one hand, I think I'd eventually like to live on some kind of co-created permaculture homestead, maybe a cooperative community. On the other, I want to remain free for boundless travel and exploration! Both possibilities excite me, maybe they can go together. Right now, I'm living in my own space by a magical creek, living a dreamy life, and feeling grateful and excited about having so much freedom to explore. I'm also OPEN and I'm excited to connect with my partner and see what we feel drawn to creating together :)
Hugging - I get lots of comments on this, which feels really sweet! I've been told by many people that I give "the best hugs ever." Awww <3
Dancing like nobody's watching :)
Um, yeah, food is a big focus in my life...
I love healthy food made from high quality ingredients. Mostly organic/sustainable and lots of local/seasonal. Lots of veggies, lots of whole foods. I generally go to the farmers' market at least once a week and I prepare most of my meals at home - I usually keep it pretty simple, and always delicious. Broadly speaking, some of my favorites are Japanese, Thai, and Indian cuisine...And mmm...YES to fermented foods and green smoothies! I've experimented a lot with different diets/ways of eating, but have found it's most important to focus on listening to what my body wants at any given time, and being open to that changing, instead of deciding to "be" vegan, paleo, etc.. My morals do have a huge impact on what I eat. That said, I've found that my body has not yet been able to function optimally on a vegan diet and in order to fully honor life and whatever it is I'm here to do, I consume pasture-raised eggs, chicken, and wild fish with deep reverence and gratitude. No gluten, dairy, or most refined foods/sugars. Lots of details, I know ;). Also, I'd love to get back to growing more of my own food, but right now traveling is taking priority.
I love music that I can MOVE to...My taste is pretty eclectic, although lately I've been getting more into electronic. I also like listening to traditional flute music, drums, and Kirtan. I've always tended to be mostly drawn to individual songs/pieces and don't usually listen to a lot of music by any one artist, some current favorites are by East Forest, Scott August, Mamuse, Shimshai, The Human Experience, Hang Massive, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Rising Appalachia, and Trevor Hall.
I don't have a TV, but I do enjoy watching a good comedy or documentary every once in a while...pretty rarely at this point. I'm super picky about what I watch or consume in general.
Spiritual practice (life itself as well as
more specific practices)
Materially, I'd rather not be without a pen and something to write on. I've also been getting into playing native flute and hula hooping, so I'd like to have those things around too :).
- You love to dance or are at least open to trying
