My self-summary
I am a person of character, curiosity, courage, compassion, complexity, charm and challenge. Perhaps even contradiction. Why be either-or when you can be both-and?
(with the lovely alliteration of all these 'c' words, I am at a loss for how to locate my prized virtue of 'integrity' on this list)

I am probably less serious than I come across in this write-up. But in some ways I am that serious. Hopefully the photos in the crown can attest to my playful side. I love puns even though I've heard that they are the lowest form of humour. (I've decided that the person who "informed" me of that was just jealous of my ability ;). Nothing turns me on like good and interesting conversation or clever and flirtatious repartée between two engaged minds.

I am a fan of people who type out words rather than using texting abbreviations. You will lose me at u.

ps: I choose to respond only to people with pictures up on this site, and who have an amply filled out profile :) If you want to chat without having said profile and compatibility questions done (hoping instead that we will get to know each other through messaging), I will block you.
What I’m doing with my life
being an adventurer.
I’m really good at
Tetris. In fact, I own the arcade version by Atari. Yes, 7' tall and 3' deep, and fully awesome.
The first things people usually notice about me
Either my cool glasses or my intense mind. Oh yes, or that I have my motorcycle license and drive a Vespa.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love movies, especially indie ones: The Lives of Others, Das Boot, The Secret in their Eyes, Incendies, Little Miss Sunshine, Love Actually, Water, Date Night, The Secretary, Fargo, Agora, A Serious Man, A Single Man, American Beauty, Prospero's Books, Rabbit-Proof Fence, Departures, Hysteria, The Contender, Downfall, Reservoir Dogs, The Name of the Rose, Alexandra's Project, Shame, No Country for Old Men, Fight Club, Marathon Man, Bill Cunningham New York, Little Voice, The Pianist, The Kite Runner, Run Lola Run, Inglourious Basterds, Ne le dis à personne (aka Tell No One), Conspiracy, 12 Angry Men, Mesrine (I & II), Animal Kingdom, Breaker Morant, A Dangerous Method, The Other Son. Those being my high brow choices, I love action/thriller flicks too: Midnight Run, Safe House, the Millennium Trilogy (either the US version or the Swedish version), The Bourne Identity Series, all the Star Wars (which except for the first one, I saw all on the first day they came out), and I loved Rock of Ages.

If I watch TV, it is usually a series so I can watch it at my own pace. I've watched The Killing (Season 4 jumped the shark, but Peter Sarsgaard was RIVETING in his last performance at the end of Season 3, some of the best television I have ever watched), Suits, True Detective, The Good Wife, West Wing, Boston Legal, The Borgias, In Treatment, Homeland and Bad Judge. I like BBC shows like Scott and Bailey, The Fall, Prime Suspect, Father Ted, Foyle's War and Sherlock (the new one!). Oh yes. I live for the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I went to a live taping of the Colbert Report in Vancouver during the Olympics and even saw myself on TV. I am successfully chipping away at my 15 minutes. As far as shows, I do like live theatre. Ooooh, and I love opera, which also gives me the chance to wear gowns and crowns. ;)

Food. Yum. Most ethnics stuff. Just about anything Indian-but high marks for palak paneer, kofta and bharta for veggie stuff and chicken tikka masala or butter chicken for meat. Anything Italian like cannelloni or insalata caprese. Pad Thai with extra egg or green curry. Yam tempura rolls with brown rice. A dönar from Kreuzberg. Dessert? baked New York style cheesecake, apple strüdel, fine chocolate and rugelach from Solly's. Not all at the same time, mind you.

I discovered Adele a while back and thought she was fantastic. I got to see her in Vancouver. Other than that, my tastes are ecclectic. Everything from Leonard Cohen through Filippa Giordano to Francis Cabrel. I know all the words to most songs from the 1970s. I know. It's crazy.

My life revolves around the book *Dialectic of Enlightenment* by Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno. In its pursuit, I am constantly reading other philosophy, as well as anthropology, psychology and history. I love non-fiction. I was a historical tour guide for four years in Berlin. I have been known to like novels, especially when in a book club. The meeting date provides good motivation to finish reading the book.
The six things I could never do without
i. Jet airplanes that take me to countries I have never been to before or back to places I have been to see the people I am missing.
ii. Chai tea latté from Starbucks.
iii. Movies, movies, movies. It is one of my pleasures in life.
iv. Wifi
v. My mouth: to speak, eat, sing, taste, kiss, smile, laugh, love.
vi. Human intelligence.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
social justice and the ending of oppression, movies I have seen, people's motivations for the things they do, how I can be the best person I can.
On a typical Friday night I am
I don't think there is a typical thing I do on Fridays.
