My self-summary
I'm an easygoing, somewhat scatterbrained person. Although I'm usually purposefully doing something, every once in a while I like to stop scampering around, take a deep breath, and enjoy the scenery. I like to think of myself as very open-minded.

I'm in an open relationship. You do not have to meet or befriend my primary partner, although that would be totally cool.

I try to always have at least one ongoing personal project. I finish about 20% of them. Right now I'm playing around with computer vision and trying to write a Magic (the TCG) card-scanning app.

I'm socially liberal and fiscally wishy-washy. I'm all about LGBT rights, feminism, and destroying the gender binary.

My preferred forms of exercise are squash, biking, rock climbing, running, rowing, and swimming in that order.

Born in Russia and moved to the states when I was 7. I still speak, read, and write in Russian fluently.

I have a very low tolerance for people who take themselves too seriously.

Always on the lookout for a nice place to hang a hammock.
What I’m doing with my life
I live with 4 other people and work at a software startup in Cambridge. In my free time I read, sail, play games, camp, hike, cook, and try to figure my life out.

I'm getting sick of renting so I'm trying to get some people organized into a housing co-op.
I’m really good at
I'm a good listener, have great hand-eye coordination, an excellent imagination and a relatively long attention span. Specifically, I excel at programming, writing, and strictly rationing the fucks I give.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I try but usually fail to update these often:

Books: goodreads.com/shplorf
Movies: flickchart.com/teh_russians

For books I'm a big fan of SF: Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Neil Stephenson, Dan Simmons, Greg Egan, Frank Herbert, and The Strugatsky Brothers. I like to mix in some Terry Pratchett, Douglass Adams or Neil Gaiman every once in a while for comic relief. History, specifically about the Mongol empire and the WW2 era. Winston Churchill was such a BAMF.

Webcomics: Questionable Content, Buttersafe, SMBC

I like movies that inspire and make me think, but sometimes there's nothing like some simple gratuitous violence. Some favorites are Inception, Serenity, Run Lola Run, Ghost in the Shell, Atonement, Infernal Affairs, Oldboy, Amelie, All the Guy Ritchie films, American Beauty, Good Will Hunting, Princess Bride, The Man from Earth, Burn After Reading, Mononoke-hime, The English Patient, The Matrix, Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds, and Les Misérables(The 1995 one with Jean-Paul Belmondo).

Shows: The Wire, Boston Public, The West Wing, Deadwood, House of Cards, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan

I listen to a lot of Russian rock and metal, mellow indie rock with mostly female vocals, some classic, a lot of random pop and techno, and RAMMSTEIN.

My favorie food varies a lot, but semi-constant favorites include dumplings, sushi, meat pies, hot & sour soup, and muffins.
The six things I could never do without
Hmm. There's really no THING I could NEVER do without. I guess I'm not a very materialistic person...

That sounds a bit pretentious. The most important objects in my life would have to be my laptop, my multi-tool, my phone, my Kindle, my notepad, and comfy shoes.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The technological singularity. Probabilities. Magic. And just how fucking beautiful everything is.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually doing something with people. Drinking, movie-watching, gaming, running around outside being silly.
You should message me if
You want to meet up and do one or more of these things:

- Build stuff

- Cook stuff

- Eat stuff

- Drink stuff

- Be my belay bro

- Play board games/video games/MTG

- Go biking/sailing/kayaking/hiking

- Mini-golf

I'm also looking for someone to re-watch Rick and Morty with who hasn't seen it. I want to vicariously re-experience watching it for the first time.
