My self-summary
Hi!
I'm Jack, I am a 24-year-old straight white cis man. I am well aware of my privilege and do what I can to create a more just and equitable, and less ignorant and apathetic society. I will go into more detail below but first a quote I like:

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
― Albert Einstein

I am a scientific skeptic (if you aren't sure what I mean it is easiest if you google it but I will simply say I am NOT a cynic or a denialist though they are sometimes erroneously called skeptics); this is what's at my core, it is the primary frame of reference through which I understand reality. It is this philosophy combined with my sense of empathy that I derive my political perspective. I am an activist for a number of progressive issues, the main one for me is climate justice (I volunteer with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition) because of how climate change effects every other issue I care about. I am an intersectional feminist, LGBTQIA+ ally, vegan, and cyclist (I don't own a car, though I known how to drive an automatic). Also, I care about asylum seekers, racial justice (#TreatyNotRecognise), education, and income inequality.
I don't smoke because I like my lungs full of fresh air, so that I can use them to efficiently disperse oxygen into my blood and remove carbon dioxide, so that I can ride my bike really fast, I also don't want to support an industry that gets people addicted to giving themselves cancer, oh and it's really gross. I don't drink because I hate the taste of alcohol, and I think I am more fun when I am in full control of my body. I don't take (non-medicinal) drugs for a combination of the above reasons; though prohibition does not work.

I probably should have described my personality earlier but oh well! I'm a friendly socially awkward introvert, once I get to know someone I have stuff in common with I'm pretty funny.
What I’m doing with my life
I just moved to Melbourne because a family friend said I would like it (I do). I am part way through my B. of Education (Early Childhood and Primary), while I am in Melbourne I am studying towards my certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. I want to help prepare the people who are going to have to deal with the mess we are making of this planet. I find children incredibly interesting, especially the different ways they see the world.
I am working as a nanny/babysitter including for the above mentioned family friend, I am also looking for work in a childcare centre.
I am getting involved with activism here. I am also looking for friends in Melbourne, since I know hardly anyone.
I’m really good at
(I hate selling myself, I prefer to let people figure out this stuff themselves but here goes...) engaging with children, thinking deeply, going fast on my bike, eating large amounts of food (it isn't as fun as it sounds), I used to train with a youth circus; so clowning, stilt walking (it's like riding a bike) and other tricky stuff.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've noticed many people don't know what to write in this 'essay', I do because people often tell me that I'm tall (I've noticed myself), notice that I'm skinny (but usually only acknowledge it after I make some sort of self deprecating joke about it). The first thing people will notice about my personality is that I am shy around strangers.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Abridged lists, trying to keep it short... (I'm not that good at it I know)
Books: Scott Westerfield, Terry Pratchet, Carl Sagan, and Edgar Allen Poe. I was enjoying Richard Dawkins' (He is massive hyper privileged dick but he is okay as long as he sticks to biology) The Greatest Show on Earth until I lost it on a bus. :{
Movies: 7 Psychopaths, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill (1&2), The new batman movies, pretty much everything in the marvel universe, super hero movies generally except the shit ones, Hot Fuzz, V for Vendetta, and some others...
Shows: Game of Thrones, The Flash, Arrow, Jessica Jones, Agent Carter, Community (for those who have seen it I am like Abed with many of Britta's opinions and apparently a Professor Duncan side too; so I'm looking for someone who will be a Troy to my Abed), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Simpsons, Archer, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, anything by the Chaser team on the ABC, the Gruen Transfer/Planet/Nation etc, Misfits, Breaking Bad, Being Human (UK series), Black Books, The Young Ones, The IT Crowd, and The Mighty Boosh.
Music: Love punk (especially sXe) and metal... Good Clean Fun, Bikini Kill, L7, Good Riddance, The Runaways, Bad Religion, Anti-Flag, Against Me!, Rise Against, Propagandhi, Fugazi, Gorilla Biscuits, Minor Threat, Battle Beast, Alestorm, Nightwish, Van Canto, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rammstein, Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, and Tim Minchin.
Podcasts: Citizen Radio, Something Wonky, Thrilling Adventure Hour, Welcome to Night Vale, TOFOP, and FOFOP.
Food: Large amounts of vegan food. I love Chinese, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Asian food generally, and Italian...
The six things I could never do without
1) Intellectual stimulation
2) My bike
3) Activism
4) Glasses
5) Music
6) Podcasts

*Note: I could actually do without all these "things" but a list of six things I could actually never do without has become an over done cliche.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
All the things wrong with Australia and the world right now.
Science.
Skepticism.
Also thinking about my own thinking and trying to find flaws. Yes that's skepticism but I thought I should illustrate that aspect.
The Marvel universe.
On a typical Friday night I am
at home watching shows on my laptop. I know lame right? But when clubs and pubs play music I don't like, too loud to maintain an intelligent conversation with someone who is drinking something that makes them dumber anyway, I can't see the point in going out.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
is I think less of you if answer these essays with the same cliche as half of OkCupid like for this essay writing "if its priv8 y wud i rite it ere on da internets lol". That annoys me the most out of all obviously the thing you're writing about isn't it then, if you are a private person (I don't have any problem with private people) just write the most private thing you are WILLING to admit; maybe for you it's that you don't like brussels sprouts, maybe you have a pet whose name is an amusing pun based on the name of someone famous or you want to meet new people. I don't know what it is, but I know it's something, even if it's not really that private. If you don't want to admit anything at all I don't know how you got this far on social media, because the first step in social media is admitting you exist...

Also I hate the star ratings... I feel really creepy giving another being a rating out of 5...

Lastly, I'm annoyed at myself for having more than one answer to a question asking for one answer and one of those answers criticises people for not answering the question properly... That was a joke about semantics. Chances are you didn't think it was funny... But if you did... OH DAM! You're going to like me! ;)
You should message me if
You read my whole profile (which you probably have to have arrived here at this end of my profile, so this is a little redundant) and think we could have an amicable and interesting conversation but if you message me, don't expect me to just conjure conversation out of nothing with no input from you.
If you want to ask me where I get my protein, my godless morality or how I can have fun sober, don't; you'll just look and feel silly and I would feel bad about the metaphorical fish in the metaphorical barrel that I had shot with my metaphorical gun.
And don't tell me science and skepticism suck all of the mystery from the universe, I'm happy to point out the wonder and mystery of the universe though, if you have momentarily misplaced or can't find it...
