My self-summary
If you think you might be interested in getting to know me, I suggest taking a look at the "You should message me if" section.

I'm a genuinely good person, but not your average Joe. I'm someone who is always striving to be the best person I can be and to approach life from a place of love and compassion. "Striving" is the keyword here. I fall short of this often. Most people would tell you I'm very bright, funny, honest, genuine and talented. They'd also probably say I'm sarcastic, opinionated, and intense (I prefer to say "passionate"). I'm an exceptionally good friend to those in my life. In fact, my closest group of friends I've known for over 30 years. I love to help others and create.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm in transition right now. I know I have a deep passion for making a positive difference in the lives of others (especially foster youth), and I know I have a deep passion for writing and producing. I'm working toward creating a life where these passions (and others) coexist. Right now, I'm building some very interesting projects, and taking some time to go inward and release some stuff that's been holding me back.
I’m really good at
... making others laugh, identifying issues and strategizing solutions, cooking jambalaya (at least I think so), maintaining close friendships, writing, being creative, planning events, suggesting great restaurants (especially a good hole-in-the-wall), finding good and reasonably-priced apartments, and math.
The first things people usually notice about me
That one of my arms is a centimeter longer than the other. :)

Seriously, I have no idea.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - I don't read as much fiction as I used to, but I've really enjoyed The Things They Carried, Breakfast of Champions, The Little Prince, Geek Love, The Sweet Hereafter. Lately I tend to read books as research for my writing, or I read more spiritual/philosophical books like A New Earth or Beyond Words and Thoughts.

Movies - I could go on and on! It's so hard to narrow it down, but here are a bunch of them: Amadeus, Network, Bonnie and Clyde, Rocky, Breaking Away, Bull Durham, Defending Your Life, Muriel's Wedding, American Splendor, Trainspotting, Kramer vs. Kramer, The Hustler, Squid and the Whale, loving Ramin Bahrani's movies, also Tom McCarthy's, Hannah and Her Sisters, Crimes and Misdemeanors, it's cliched but The Godfather, Raging Bull, This is Spinal Tap, Jaws. Should I move on to documentaries? That's a whole new list.

Music - My favorites are Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, early Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, and The Clash. But I like most types of music, and I'm really wanting to know more new music. So if you have any great suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Food - I love food! My favorites are Thai, Mexican, and Indian, but I like almost every kind of food. I do try to balance it out with eating pretty healthy.

4) Making a difference in the lives of others
5) Lately, my glasses unfortunately
6) And my Magic Eight Ball... it makes all my decisions for me
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What's next...
On a typical Friday night I am
Taking it easy... Friday night calls out to me to relax for some reason.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I genuinely love the People's Court and the band, Bread. In fact, there's quite a bit of sappy 70s music I secretly listen to. Uh oh, secret's out!
You should message me if
As I mentioned, I'm in a place of transition right now, so I'm not looking to date at the moment. I just want to hang out with people as friends and get to know each other. If it ends up heading in the direction of something more intimate, then great. If it doesn't, that's great as well; we may find we can be good friends.

I'm just at a point where I'm not interested in starting things out calling it "dating," certainly not until there's some actual mutual interest. For me, it just doesn't feel genuine that way.

I know for some it's important to them that the man treat them and take the lead, especially at the beginning, and I totally respect everyone has their wants and needs. That's just not where I'm at right now. So if that interests you, please reach out.
