My self-summary
I'm going to put this right up top. I am ready for the real deal here. If you are exclusively looking to just date casually and then move on, please don't message me. This makes it sound more intense than it actually is, but after a few recent experiences that were going well until recent relationship baggage (theirs) torpedoed things just as they were getting interesting, I would prefer to only meet people that are genuinely open to a longer-term relationship. I'm not talking about intense, spend-all-your-time-with-them smotherfests, just the normal dating fun with someone who's emotionally ready to grow into more if it's going well :)

On to the fun stuff...
Things I like: real honest-to-god belly laughs, biking for exercise as well as transportation (and travel - I just returned from a 5 week trip cycling from Athens to Budapest and it was just as awesome as that sounds), photography (appreciating and doing), doing a couple of camping/backpacking trips a year (not a dealbreaker if you're not into this; I have friends I go with), parentheses (apparently), the unexpected joyful squawks of the wild San Francisco parrots, woodshop, craft beers, the smell of the Sierras in the summer, and sharp, incisive comedy (Louis C.K., George Carlin, Chris Rock...). I suppose that sums me up about as well as anything.

I'm pretty attracted to people that have a science background but also have a predilection to creative pursuits. Getting the hands dirty is hot!

I have been to a real live Vodou ceremony in Haiti and I've been personally yelled at by Siegfried in a hotel (Roy was there, but chose to continue quietly eating his breakfast).

Life has been good to me and I'm grateful for that - time to find someone to share it all with. Hopefully you're in a good place in your life these days, too.
What I’m doing with my life
Mainly, keeping it simple. Low drama and a focus on what really matters: family, friends, good food, fresh air and exercise, and exploring this big planet with the short time we have.

Making or modifying my furniture (I have a few pieces I rescued from the street and then customized to suit my space/tastes).

Keeping my tortoise, Natasha, in fresh veggies.
I’m really good at
Wry humor. Getting animals to let me pet 'em. Handy, around-the-house fix-it stuff. Simpsons quotes. Making guacamole. Well-timed jokes? Someone just told me that last one last weekend, so I'm going with it.

Things I'm not so good at: trip planning (I tend to just buy the tickets or get in the car and plan on the fly - yes, this can cause problems occasionally - perhaps this is where you can assist?); non-food shopping; computery stuff; coming up with lists when prompted.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I've apparently photoshopped out the prison tats in my okcupid pics.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
BOOKS: I spend more time with the periodicals, typically - the New Yorker and various online news stuff - a recent favorite is Matt Taibbi's political analysis in Rolling Stone. Favorite author these days is Cormac McCarthy, and right now I'm reading a book on corvid intelligence (kind of a fascination of mine).

MOVIES: The Big Lebowski, Delicatessen, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Baraka, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Run Lola Run, The Constant Gardener, Apocalypse Now, Requiem For a Dream, Rushmore, No Country for Old Men, Black Swan, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, WALL-E, Repo Man, The Bourne trilogy. Directors: Jean Pierre Jeunet, Werner Herzog, Darren Aronofsky, the Coen Brothers, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Kathryn Bigelow, Guy Ritchie, Guillermo del Toro and Terry Gilliam. I do love movies...

MUSIC: Lots, but I favor mainly rock and folkish stuff. Things like this, if for no other reason than the raw energy of it:
I probably should go to the symphony once in a while... date idea? Recent favorites are Sigur Ros, Mike Doughty, Deltron, Townes Van Zandt, First Aid Kit, Elliott Brood. I've also just re-acquired a cello, in hopes of recapturing my high school music mojo.

FOOD: Lots. Plow breakfast, Limon Rotisserie everything, Little Chihuahua tostada salad and pozole. Recchiuti dark chocolate, winter squashes, summer stone fruits, chicken and waffles(!), really REALLY sharp cheddar, Manila mangoes, olives, bagels & lox & capers. I'm a carnivore who cooks the occasional vegan dinner.

PODCASTS: I just recently got into these. 99% Invisible, Comedy Bang Bang, WTF, and Car Talk are my favorites.
The six things I could never do without
Quality time with friends and family, preferably including good food and lots of laughter. Bikes. Sunday morning reading over coffee. Making stuff. Great live music. The Great Outdoors.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Politics, social norms, angles (not angels). Why are people from Glasgow called Glaswegians? What the hell is wrong with the Republicans (this one is in here from long before the current election cycle. It's about 10x as relevant right now)? How things go together and come apart. What's with all the neck tattoos?
On a typical Friday night I am
Well, last night I went to the indiefest roller disco.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I could spend about an hour playing this:
You should message me if want to bike out to the beach for the sunset...or anywhere, for any reason.'ve got something to teach me. are a kind person at heart, yet still have a bit of sass.'re an independent thinker. don't book your schedule so packed that it always takes 2 weeks to plan every date.'re a mix of science-y and artsy.
...Vegas is NOT your idea of a great vacation.
...places like Turkey and Indonesia DO sound like great trips (want to go?)
