My self-summary
I have a sarcastic and ludicrous sense of humor, an interest in far too many subjects, and curly hair. I don't actually wear glasses, but I really do have a patchy beard. (Getting to the point where I should look into those glasses, though.)

I'm a writer, graphic designer, feminist, political agitator, smart-ass, and life-long video gamer.
What I’m doing with my life
I've written a few novels, a handful of novellas, and a veritable bunchy-load of shorts. My work has sold decently, but even decent sales add up to a pretty crappy living. So, I'm currently looking into how I can reboot my life and start making something resembling a livable wage.

In the meantime, I'm writing, occasionally freelancing, cooking, and spending too much time on the internet.
I’m really good at
A lot of stuff, and not some others. If you need someone to explain the grammatical structure of a complex a sentence, fix your computer, or answer some obscure piece of trivia, I'm your guy. If you need someone to fix the plumbing or rebuild a transmission, I can probably find their number.

I'm also a pretty skilled whistler, so if that sort of thing annoys you, you should probably steer clear.
The first things people usually notice about me
Based on comments shortly after meeting people: curly hair, general wittiness, large vocabulary, and pleasing voice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Although I like a bit of everything, I prefer things with spaceships, aliens, singing dwarves, angry dragons, and the kind of drama that punches you in the gut. I'll listen to pretty much any kind of music, but left to my own devices, I gravitate toward jazz and stuff that sounds like broken robots failing to hump one another (wub, wub, wub).

More specifically...

Foods: Mexican, Indian, Mediterranean, junk food, fancy food... yeah, food in general. I prefer spicy food, but I'll eat almost anything. I cook a lot.

Music: Rodrigo y Gabriela, Daft Punk, Queen, Tool, Metallica, Justice, Deadmau5, Miles Davis, Stanton Moore, Post Modern Jukebox, movie soundtracks, classical, etc. I sing along, so be forewarned.

Books: Dune, Iain M. Banks, China Miéville, Paulo Coelho, any random thing that grabs my attention. These days, I mostly read articles, especially relating to social justice and far left politics.

TV: Yep. Pretty much all of it. Some favorites are Arrested Development, Parks & Rec, Jeopardy!, Breaking Bad, and Star Trek (anything but Voyager).

Movies: Lord of the Rings, Marvel movies, The Thing, Alien, Zero Effect, A Knight's Tale (so bad it's good), anything sci-fi, anything action, and I have a massive weakness for romantic comedies.

Hope for a better tomorrow
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Pretty much everything under the sun... physics, metaphysics, the meaning of life, the perfect sandwich, how jokes work, why I find someone beautiful, politics, why my political ideas are probably wrong, how to induce moments of catharsis in an audience...

And linguistics. I'm almost always thinking about linguistics. I'm just about the opposite of a grammar nazi, though... really more of a grammar guerrilla.
On a typical Friday night I am
Writing, catching up on the night's TV, competing heatedly at Jeopardy! from the couch.

I'd really like to start hiking again.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I think I've spent a lot of time in the past pretending to enjoy various people's company instead of seeking out people whose company I'd actually enjoy.
You should message me if
(As most profiles say) if you have something more interesting to say than "hey" or "how's it going?"

You should message me if you're nerdy-cool, independent, gutsy, interested in understanding things, ambitious, liberal as hell, creative, clever, ridiculous, funny, argumentative, empathetic, and want to save the world. I don't have enough of those people in my life. I don't imagine most people do.

I'm genuinely interested in new friends, but I'm also picky as hell. I'm also headed in the direction of polyamory after a lifetime of thinking I needed to be somebody's somebody.

Last, I'm 420 friendly, and you probably should be, too.
