My self-summary
Grew up poor in Montana, parents split up and I moved to the Bay Area. Finished high school/community college there, then found my calling at a non-profit lab at OSU. Afterwards I moved to Portland by choice. I love exploring Portland and finding new things it has to offer.

I'm not someone who takes life too seriously, and love finding absurdity in it. What's life if you can't make fun of it?

I enjoy being outdoors doing activities like multi-day backpacking, kayaking, cycling around town, and sometimes just sitting on the porch to take in some glorious overcast weather.

I'm an avid traveller and have spent the better part of the last three years being fully nomadic. Now I'm back in Portland and looking forward to the next adventure.
What I’m doing with my life
I work for a non-profit that I share a passion with. I want to make the world a better place, and I think doing what I do is the best way for me to make that impact on the world.

In my spare time I do awesome mad science. Sometimes this means snack science (the best kind of science). I have a lot of ongoing projects that I spend my spare time on.

I'm a continual learner, and love to try new things. Lately I've been into writing and building bicycles.
I’m really good at
Waking up in the morning with 150 Wikipedia tabs open and wondering why the hell I know so much about battery chemistry and the Marquis de Sade.

Sharing stories and having fun with friends.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have very kind eyes. I'm also a bit excitable and eccentric. Things are more fun that way.

Six things I could never do without
1) Sanity and Passion
2) Resourcefulness
3) Purpose
4) A well timed distraction
5) Time out of my comfort zone
6) Continual learning
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Doing the impossible. Nobody's told me it can't be done yet.
On a typical Friday night I am
At home catching up with an unfinished project, playing some video games, or trying to automate some part of my life. When I tire of that I find a new movie to watch. During the summer I like to go on evening cycle rides with friends and have a barbecue afterwards.

Every once in a while I duck out early in the evening to drive elsewhere and meet up with old friends for video games and shenanigans. I used to play a lot more video games than I do now, but when I find time this is fun, especially with friends.

On the odd weekend I love to do garage science. I've made a crucible out of microwave oven and used it to cast ingots and make rings, making an electrophoresis box and doing gel runs on my DNA, and constructed a sous vide cooking apparatus for scrumptious grillables.

I love spending time in the kitchen, and often use blocks of free time like that to try new things. Pickling, canning, jerky making, and shrubs have been recent efforts.

During cold rainy Oregon winters I love curling up next to the fireplace and reading a book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I grew up watching Rainbow Brite.

I was up until 2:15AM writing this crappy bio. I paid my taxes this year. I am batman.
You should message me if
You've read my profile and inexplicably find it urgently necessary to send me a message. Or if we share an interest and you'd like to discuss it. Or if you'd like to sit down for tea or an after-work beer sometime.
