My self-summary
July 2017 update

I just got home from celebrating my birthday by bike camping for a week in Glacier national park. Still exhausted and sore, body takes longer to recover than when I was younger. Photos coming soon

No more car, I have my bicycle, my scooter, car2go, uber / lyft and a rental place a few blocks from my apartment. I'm enjoying the freedom of not being bogged down by the car, more flexibility in where to park, how to get around the city, etc. All photos are within last 12 months unless specifically noted.

Winter primary sports - curling. Yeah, that sport you see at the winter Olympics, we play it here in Columbus. Fairly good sized club, our own building with ice just for us to play on.

Summer recreation - kickball. Everyone on my team is from the curling club, we have so much fun hanging out with each other all winter that we miss each other in the summer and started playing kickball. We rarely win (I think we got 1 win last year) but in the words of a friend of mine - 'Embrace the suck!'. We have fun and that's all that matters.

Things that pay my bills - computer programming, various languages

Things that keep me happy:
bicycle safety advocacy and group bike rides
legal aid (I'm also a paralegal - do volunteer work)
children's rights advocacy - taking a sanity break now but I have been a Court Appointed Special Advocate - Guardian ad Litem - (CASA -GAL). Helping children who have been the victim of domestic abuse.

I travel often, budget for an international trip every two or three years. 2018 should be my next international trip. Right now it looks like I'll be doing a Pacific Ocean trip, Japan, Indonesia, possibly Thailand &/or Cambodia, Guam, etc. Might have to wait until 2019, still working on logistics

I do frequent weekend trips for my hobbies. Sci-fi and gaming conventions usually.
What I’m doing with my life
Biking as a form of transportation has really changed my perspective on the world around me. There's so many interesting things to see that you don't notice when you drive by in your car. Columbus has some amazing sculptures and outdoor art exhibits, bike slowly and enjoy the view!
I’m really good at
I'm analytical. I think things through before I act. I tend not to make snap judgments but think things over before I decide. I'm also willing to admit I've made a mistake after further thought.

I'm also pretty good at making up analogies, explaining complex ideas thoughts in ways that non-propellerheads can understand. I'm like a shark, I... Uhm... Have to keep moving or I die? Hrm, needs work

"I have never failed I have just found a thousand ways how to not succeed" - Someone smarter than me
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm always laughing, usually at myself.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Current read: The Law of the Land: A Grand Tour of our Constitutional Republic - Akhil Reed Amar.

Next book to read: Elvis Costello has a book out!

Yes, I know. Reading books about constitutional law for fun. I'm a bit odd that way

Music - Mostly 80s and early 90s. A few Favs include Social Distortion, Violent Femmes, Elvis Costello, and the Ditty Bops.

Movies I'm much more likely to watch a foreign / art film than a blockbuster. This doesn't mean I enjoy the occasional blockbuster but if I'm ever going to re-watch something it's far more likely to by Mary and Max, The Illusionist, Triplets of Bellevue or even Pi than watch the latest blockbuster. It is not possible to watch Lawrence of Arabia enough times however it MUST be at least a big screen or movie screen, such a movie cannot be contained by less than 40" screen.

I'm vegetarian however I eat fish, eggs and dairy occasionally. Sushi is never turned down, Japanese and Korean are fantastic. Middle eastern is second nature to me, MAZAH is one of my favorite restaurants in town.

Due to future travel plans I may need to switch back to being an omnivore, after 30 years vegetarian it should be quite an adventure.
Six things I could never do without
Logic puzzles, whether its Sudoku, riddles or even more complex (my job is basically solving elaborate logic puzzles lucky me!)
A bike
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything. Or nothing. Frequently both at the same time. I range from the simple to the complex, practical to theoretical.

I'm also thinking about my next trip. Maybe Africa?
On a typical Friday night I am
Lots of things, from the boring (at home watching Netflix) to the odd (Columus Area Boardgamers playing Euro-style boardgames), fun (playing curling), or at a hockey game.

Then again, I just may be out at the bar watching a band play.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I used to be Muddy, the mascot for the Toledo Mud Hens. Go Hens!
You should message me if
If you're from planet Earth. Er, wait, if you're not from Earth I want you to message me too!
