My self-summary
I just moved to Pittsburgh at the beginning of August. I don't know anything about the area so I'd love to meet people!

I'm very easily amused. I love museums (I can't wait to get my student ID!), audio books, random road trips, breweries, drag shows and cooking for people. I like riling up other people's children and then sending them home.

I try to surround myself with thoughtful, open-minded, empathetic people who can indulge my love of long philosophical (and sometimes ridiculous) conversations. Why do people cling to religion? What really makes a family? Does free will exist? What is the difference between a Baby Ruth and a Snickers bar?

Most of my closest friends live in other states which can be sad for me and my phone bill. My family lives 3000 miles away and I'm totally ok with that. :)
What I’m doing with my life
I'm just starting a doctoral program. I haven't been a student in a very long time.
I’m really good at
making people smile, giving homemade gifts, quoting random movies and making up bad lyrics to songs.
The first things people usually notice about me
Well, my hair is streaked purple... so my guess would be that.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I don't have cable, but I still manage to watch way too much television. Every December I watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I'm a series junkie - some of my favorites are Parenthood, Dexter, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Orphan Black, Homeland and Scandal.

My musical taste runs the gamut from Avenue Q to Ingrid Michaelson to The Gipsy Kings to classic 80's pop. Hedwig and the Angry Inch always helps me through a rough day.

I find talk radio stressful... unless it's the Red Sox. Yes, I'm a huge Red Sox fan. It's in my blood.

I'm a pretty strict vegetarian. I'd be vegan but I can't live without butter (margarine is not ok.). I don't care what you eat, but if you're afraid of tofu, we're going to have a rough time of it. I'm an excellent cook.

I'm a beer snob. Rye IPAs are my current favorites.

I love card games like Apples to Apples and Racko (and Cards Against Humanity!), but I really don't see the appeal of fantasy / role playing games.

I recently got sucked into Pokemon Go. Catching the critters amuses me but I don't get the gyms at all.
The six things I could never do without
a pet (or two)
the big picture
my friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what I want to be when I grow up.
On a typical Friday night I am
Who knows... I'm new in town!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm divorced and I'm not poly.

Oh, and I don't reply to one word messages. I enjoy complete sentences and good grammar. I'm a snob like that.
You should message me if
-- You're voting for Hillary.
-- You're passionate and driven.
-- You can hold up your end of an philosophical conversation... even if we disagree.
-- You think not in black or white, but in shades of gray.
-- You think Cards Against Humanity is hilariously awesome!
-- You take the time to spell out "you" and "are."
-- You want to get Indian food! Or cupcakes! Or beer!
-- You think my cats would like you.
-- You want to take me to your favorite place in Pittsburgh!

I'm not looking for co-dependence or someone with whom to merge. I'm extremely independent, I like my space and I like my life. I'm looking for someone similar in that respect.

If you identify as Christian, we're probably not going to get along.

If you're bi-curious, experimenting, inexperienced... I'm glad for you but I have no desire to be anyone's first anything.
