My self-summary
In a room full of people, I find that the old people are, as a rule, the most interesting ones. That's because they're not trying to impress anybody. I aspire to that kind of freedom.

Sometimes I find myself humming the Limbo song, or doing handstands for no apparent reason. I will dance in any venue, including in an elevator next to the CEO. I like to be surprised by a sudden smile.

Sometimes I write poetry. Or, more accurately, sometimes poems find me.
What I’m doing with my life
Most recently, I've been building a little enclosure for my winter wood supply, and trying to learn a few Japanese building techniques in the process. It's been awesome.

I can often be found just kicking around a little intentional community I've been living in for over 7 years. Community living isn't for everybody, but it's been good to me; shared meals, music, movies, gardens, cars. Plus, all the kids come here to hang out, and with the addition of the new quarter-pipe, it's pretty much off-the-hook!

When life gets just a wee bit overwhelming for this uber-introvert, I go dancing. Dancing, for an introvert, you say? Oh yes, nothing turns off the brain like dancing - good for the body, good for the soul.

When I'm too tired to dance, I stoke up a cozy fire in the wood stove and curl up with a nice, relaxing book about how humanity is about to collapse.

Finally, there are the hobbies I flirt with, but will probably never get very good at: Guitar, sailing, poetry, climbing, violin, karaoke, and writing the next great American coming-of-age-novel. I am "dabbling" more than "doing" these things, but I include them here for sake of completeness.
I’m really good at
Apologizing. Losing things immediately prior to needing them desperately. Forgetting. Making simple things difficult. Producing self-effacing lists of my attributes.

"Plopping" - I found this out while volunteering at a CSA one summer. "Plopping" is laying out the starter plants in rows for others to come along and plant.

Judging a book by its non-verbal communication.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've fallen far, far short of my goal to gain 10 pounds.

UPDATE!!! I ate Ethiopian twice this week, and while it isn't exactly a permanent change, I do have a cute little "food baby" to be proud of for a day or so.

UPDATE - food baby gone :(
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Center stage is Nina Simone singing "Feeling Good." Down there in the orchestra pit is Ani DiFranco, laying down the score and keeping everybody honest. Andrew Bird is in the background pouring out wonderfulness. Around them is a constellation of bands that come and go from memory and daily life, all of whom I appreciate, all of whom this world would be a little dimmer without. Much love to the music makers, much love.

Winnie-The-Pooh, House at Pooh Corner
Grapes of Wrath. Read it again, it's as true today as then
Invisible Man
The Hobbit
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

Firefly. How in the name of all that is enlightenment did this series get cancelled? HOW??

Nostalgia for the Light
Life is Beautiful
The Bicycle Thief
Lawrence of Arabia
Conan the Barbarian (the original)
There really are just too many to list. I'll add more over time.

Food that was prepared by a caring soul, with the intention of nourishing others, that was bought from a farmer at a fair price, whose intention was the same.
The six things I could never do without
A healthy sense of skepticism
[I'm saving the last three in case I need them later in life]
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how to get more mango for my money.
On a typical Friday night I am
b) dancing or otherwise merry-making with friends
a) listening to awesome live music in unexpected places
c) curled up in front of the fire with a book
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I sawed the legs off the periodic table.
