I'm here hoping to find someone real. I value warmth, intelligence, curiosity, authenticity, and a sense of humor. Or at least enough of a sense of humor that you'll put up with my jokes. :P
I'm fascinated by the world and seek to better myself and my knowledge of things around me. I've traveled extensively in my lifetime, but the funny thing about travel -- or anything else that opens your eyes wider -- is the realization of how little one knows or will ever know about anything. My favorite place I've been to was a private island in the Philippines with no electricity. Surrounded by coral reefs, you could snorkel over another world, and when you were done, you could fall asleep in a hut over the water with the sound of waves crashing under you.
I love music. Classical music, to be specific, but I'm also trying to educate myself on opera by seeing as many as I can. I sing and play piano. During the summers, I head north to the Berkshire mountains to listen to the Boston Symphony Orchestra perform under the stars. My dream is to own a house overlooking a lake up there, with a dock in the backyard.
I love adventure. I got my SCUBA certification a few years ago. In 2017, I'm getting my pilot's license. Sometime after that, I'd love to learn how to sail. A sailboat would look nice in the dock in my backyard. :)
I've written a lot, here, but I'm also not from a cookie cutter. I love and celebrate uniqueness. If you share some of my interests, great! And if not, let's learn from each other. As I said above, I value warmth, intelligence, curiosity, authenticity, and a sense of humor. I really hope to find someone special to share everything with. I can't wait to find her.
Bringing people together.
Now that I own a Sodastream, I drink seltzer water like it's my job.
Walking quickly. Even for a New Yorker.
Making others feel appreciated.
I'm a non-fiction kinda guy, and I've f*cking loved science even before I F*cking Love Science. Two of my favorite authors are particle physicist/cosmologist Lawrence Krauss and string theorist Brian Greene. (I also love Neil deGrasse Tyson, but I've never read any of his books. I just listen to his podcast.)
I also have a *lot* of cookbooks.
The Big Bang Theory. BBC Sherlock. Game of Thrones. House of Cards.
America's Test Kitchen and Lidia on PBS.
Some of my favorite shows in the past have been Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, The Newsroom, and The West Wing (and yes, indeed, I listen to The West Wing Weekly podcast).
I mostly listen to classical music. Here are some favorite composers: Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Chopin.
Every once in a while, I end up listening to a musical for months on end. Recently it was Wicked, then last year I sawThe Book of Mormon and that became the musical du jour for several jours. Haven't yet gotten into Hamilton, but it'll probably happen one of these days.
I'm a foodie, and try to be open-minded. I will try most things, with the understanding that you don't have to like everything you try, but you'll also never expand your horizons without trying new things. Some of my favorite foods include dan dan noodles, Brazilian rodizio, halo-halo, passionfruit and mangoes and most things with passionfruit or mangoes in them, bubble tea, phở, pumpkin-flavored anything (except, oddly, pumpkin pie), and oysters. Regardless of the diverse set of cultures that my food interests draw upon, there are no substitutes for pizza and Carvel ice cream cake.
Jim Jefferies, Louis CK, Patton Oswalt, Joe Rogan.
You like that I didn't end that last sentence with a preposition. :)
You're smiling in one of your profile pictures.
You consider yourself to be a warm and caring individual.
You're not perfect.
