My self-summary
I always have some new thing to be doing or trying to learn. Always a instrument I'd like to learn to play better (guitar), a project I need to put together (data logger), some strange skill I'm working on acquiring (Spencarian script cursive).

I enjoy camping, hiking, canoeing -- all kinds of outdoor things. I learned to drive a boat, ride a motorcycle, and fly a hang glider before I was licensed to drive. I learned skydive in college and sailing is next on the list. For now I just ride a motorcycle. On that note, I guess I'm an adrenaline junky. I like to think of them as calculated risks; the injury rates for skiers are much higher than for skydivers.

Not a social butterfly, but being the guy who can start a fire at a winter party has its benefits.
What I’m doing with my life
Finding new ways to enjoy the moments between the things we look forward to.

Getting used to living in a real city.

High speed big data IoT buzzword factory software.

Making local food easier to find.
I’m really good at
Producing semi-relevant facts from the ether. But also, forgetting things.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm tall? And know plenty of pointless Jeopardy facts. When I have it, my facial hair.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Hmm. The Count of Monte Christo. Sidhartha. Sci Fi, epics, classics. I try to switch between dense literature and fun, fast reads. Lately stoic philosophy and pulp sci fi. Also trying to dig a little deeper into modern fiction rather than just the classics.

Movies. Well, that's a little more difficult. Pretty much any movie with Steve McQueen. Oh, and The Iron Giant. Old westerns. Kurosawa. I also like terrible but entertaining movies. I've seen The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift more times than anyone really should. WHY DOES THE CAR HAVE AN EYEBROW?

I listen to all kinds of music, I can't possible list a favorite. I like classical, electronic, rock, metal, hip-hop, bluegrass, jazz, blues, folk, ambient, I can't think of more genres, and reggae.
Never get tired of Led Zeppelin. Lots of club jazz and progressive metal lately.

More than any one favorite, I like finding new things to broaden my horizon. A foreign film, a writer with unique voice, or a new style of music are usually more interesting to me than what's popular now.

Food though? Pizza. Hands down. I love all kinds of food as well, and trying new foods. But what would life be without pizza?
Six things I could never do without
Air(to fly in), water(to swim in), a motorcycle, self improvement, new experiences, and the full faculties of my mind.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How the air moves. How things work. How to conjugate a past tense verb is Spanish. Whether other people see what I call green the same way that I see it (turns out, the answer is no!). Why people make the decisions they do. The logistics and politics of improving public transportation. How soon I could live on a sailboat or have a grass runway.

Whatever comes to mind.
On a typical Friday night I am
Probably not partying. Driving, swimming, relaxing on the porch (I have a porch again!), reading, sleeping, watching a movie, planning some far more exciting thing for the next morning. Or some combination of several and more.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a piercing and a tattoo that most people will never see.
You should message me if
You found any of this at all interesting and want to talk more. Although I don't suspect people who want to talk less send messages.

I'm flattered by comments about my facial hair, but you should know that it varies constantly. I might shave it off any time I get bored of it, and might immediately grow it back.
