My self-summary
I'm never more productive than when I should be doing something else.
What I’m doing with my life
I love being a social worker and I work, for the most part, with older adults and their families. But way before I even knew what a social worker was or does I was a comedy nerd. I've studied writing and performance and try to be as creative as I can to keep that part of my brain in balance with the social work part.
I’m really good at
I'm really good at finding what's interesting about a person.
The first things people usually notice about me
...My impossibly dry wit.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Charlie Chaplin's "City Lights" has been my favorite movie since I was in grade school and gets me every time. But I also kick off every holiday season with "Love, Actually". I also saw "Avenue Q" a while back and it strikes a chord with me. I grew up on jazz and Tom Waits but dammit if I love a good stupid pop song. I'm pretty carnivorous but I'm always looking for the vegetarian option that will make me forget South Side ribs. And TV has gotten crazy good lately so I do watch whole seasons of The Wire, Dexter, or Doctor Who when I can and it's been a great way to get to know someone.

Favorite podcasts: Nerdist, 99% Invisible, StarTalk, The Thrilling Adventure Hour, and Welcome to Night Vale.

There are many books I should get around to reading but honestly I'm more concerned with my pile of unwatched TV: Six Feet Under, BSG, Slings and Arrows, Friday Night Lights, VEEP, Fear the Walking Dead, Arrow, Flash, Gotham, The Good Wife, finishing Mad Men, still working on The Wire, Man in the High Castle, Silicon Valley, Jessica Jones, Fear the Walking Dead, Rick and Morty, Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, Luke Cage, Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt, Fargo, Preacher...what else should I be watching?
Six things I could never do without
I don't know who I'd be without a sense of humor, social work, Chicago, the people I care about, the people who care about me, and my TiVo.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend a lot of time thinking about how to amuse myself without upsetting the balance of the universe and my balance with it. Also etymologies, thanks to my 7th and 8th grade teacher and my HS Latin teacher.
On a typical Friday night I am
On a typical Friday night I am looking to be entertained and enlightened and have my interest piqued. New shows, restaurant, cities, and people are always a good start. After a long work week, anything new is a good start.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
You know that song I like? Yeah, that one. Taylor Swift.
You should message me if
you're funny and -- even more importantly -- think I am. (rimshot)
