My self-summary
Night shift nurse that loves to dance, loves people, and brunch. Brunch is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Also, farmer's markets. You can't beat being surrounded by delicious vegetables.
What I’m doing with my life
I currently work full time as a Labor and Delivery RN at a hospital in DC, I'm a huge advocate for reproductive justice especially for underserved communities and populations. I'm finishing up my MPH at UMD in a couple of months, with plans to redirect my career to parallel my passion for working in community settings...moving the upstream direction to address disparities of health and approaching health delivery systems at the population level :) I also have a vested interested in both school health and policy work...public health is the biggest umbrella, and I love it.

....eventually I plan to get my PhD, but can't wait for a break from school. December is going to be ridiculous and there will be a LOT of whiskey involved, if you want to share ;)
I’m really good at
Taking care of other people...
Being inquisitive and listening - I'd rather hear YOU tell me your life story for hours on end.

Empathy - it's so very important to my job...it makes me a better nurse, and is integral in all contexts of nursing to be a really good one.

Making mix tapes for other people, cheering friends up on a bad day, and drinking wine :)

Does... completing jigsaw puzzles count? Hah.
The first things people usually notice about me
Ooooh I have no idea, maybe you can tell me.
Maybe my hair? It has a mind of its own.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love to cook. I can't say that I'm very good at it or anywhere along the lines of a top chef, but I love to "attempt" to cook new things now and then :) It's so very therapeutic, especially after a long shift at work. Favorite type of food would have to be Indian, hands down.

Here, there, and everywhere music!

STEVIE NICKS, omg, my spirit animal. I swear she'd be my patronus if I wasn't a damn muggle.

And...Cyndi Lauper, The Black Keys, Feist, Fleetwood Mac, Mates of State, Roxette, Rilo Kiley, JENNY LEWIS, She & Him, The Sounds, The Kills, Tilly and the Wall...what is not to love about tap dance as percussive backup??

BEYONCÉ, Beyoncé, and, oh yes, Beyoncé. The Queen.

As for books...I love to read. I wish I had more time read, but currently in a time consuming relationship with grad school and ALL the scientific, scholarly public health literature. But some other favorites...
White Oleander, Mountains Beyond Mountains, The Help, A Case of Need, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Paint it Black, The Hunger Games, The Glass Castle, Catcher in the Rye, Call of the Wild...and so many more.

And I have to admit, I'm a fan of The X-files.
I also like watching Dexter and Parks and Recreation...Leslie Knope is my absolute hero.

Political news junkie, I love CNN and Politico. Anderson Cooper, you're amazing.
The six things I could never do without
COFFEE; record stores (and all the vinyl inside of them); Microbrews; long, drawn out, fantastic stories of epic proportions; Reddit, and CNN.

...and my cat, Dexter. He's a hoot and a half.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Politics, social injustice, health care, romance, the human connection, the small ways I can improve a stranger's day, where I want to travel to next...

And, when is too soon for my next cup of coffee??
On a typical Friday night I am
Venturing out on some spontaneous, perhaps impulsive, adventure of some sort.

HAHA just kidding, that's what I wish I was doing. More realistically, in a coffee shop or at home somewhere writing my thesis.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I did marching band all through high school and college...yes, I play the clarinet.
You should message me if
You want to meet up for coffee (or wine...) or if you have a fond appreciation for spontaneity or dancing :)
