My self-summary
I'm an intellectual, in that I value honest thought. I work hard to achieve my goals, and I'm determined to get to my destination. I'm passionate about some things, but discard that which doesn't matter. I try to be a better man every day. My sense of humor is very self-deprecating, dry, and sarcastic. My interests are many, and my knowledge varied. I believe in self-improvement, and that every day offers a learning experience.

I graduated from college with a degree in history, specializing in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. I have a love for Rome that borders on the obsessive. I'm somewhat shy, but I can hold my own in a conversation. I'm the kind of guy who misses signals; you need to hit me over the head and hold up a sign for me to pick them up.

I'm close to my family and friends, but also find pleasure in solitude. I'm a rabid consumer of media; it's a rare day where I don't watch something on Netflix.

I'm the best friend a person can have, as I'm loyal to a fault. I root for the underdog. I'm sometimes fatalistic, but strangely optimistic. I'm honest and open about most things, and I'll tell you when I don't feel comfortable answering something. I'm bearded and glasses-ed. I sing in the car. I can't dance. I'm a hopeless romantic, but often oblivious to romance.

I drink coffee, with an occasional latte thrown in. I spend too much time on my phone. I read BusinessWeek every week. I once took a book to a job interview.

I recently started watching The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, not because I can paint, or even want to paint. My faith in the universe needed a booster and happy little trees provided it for me.
What I’m doing with my life
I manage the Tivoli. The hours are long and weird, but there is a certain satisfaction about being on the inside of the entertainment industry that I enjoy. Also, free movies.

In my spare time, I read, watch movies, and experiment with cooking.
I’m really good at
Making people laugh, usually either at me or by mocking someone else. In fact, mockery is one of my main forms of communication.

I can write well. I write some poetry, some never-finished detective stories, and corporate e-mails.

I recall small details very well. They usually have to do with embarrassing myself.
The first things people usually notice about me
Right now, probably my beard, since it's nice and full. After talking to me, I imagine it's that I'm ridiculously self-deprecating.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Masters of Rome series, Colleen McCullough, anything Dan Simmons, Gary Jennings, Most of Orson Scott Card, Jack McDevitt, Barry Eisler, most historical fiction, mysteries, suspense, a good deal of sci-fi and fantasy. I generally go through at least a book a week, though usually more.

Movies: I watch a lot of independent film, but that's not to say I don't enjoy a good action flick or any other mainstream film. I'm a contrarian about most well-known directors (too many to name), but I'm happy to be proven wrong. Specifics: Swingers, Kick Ass, Good Will Hunting, Black Hawk Down, Die Hard, Baseketball, Orgazmo, Cannibal: The Musical, Winter's Bone, The Rape of Europa, Bottle Shock, The Weather Man, World's Greatest Dad, Brick, The Messenger, Godfather I and II, Willie Wonka, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, SLC Punk, Shame, Moonrise Kingdom (the only Wes Anderson to date I've enjoyed), Inglorious Basterds, and I'll keep adding to this as I think of more.

TV: Solidly written shows are my Achilles heel. Lately, House of Lies, Californication, Dexter, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Homeland, West Wing, Sports Night, The Wire, Firefly, Justified, Falling Skies, The Newsroom, and the Walking Dead. Just about anything Discovery or History. Except Ice Road Truckers. I just don't get that.

Music: Pretty much everything. Country to rap to classical. For the last few months it's been country, but that's as fluid as anything. The other day at work I went from Viking Metal to Country to Jazz to Classical.

Food: I do, in fact, eat food. I try to cook a good downhome meal once a week. I like experimenting with my meals, and am open to most foods, at least to try.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
History (largely Rome and pre-Columbian Mesoamerica), movies (it's my job), and books. Business, and the state of the economy. Pithy one liners.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working or at the bar, generally speaking. Sometimes one then the other. Also, grilling with friends. If not any of those, then at home, catching up on a show or watching a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm terrified that I will meet the woman of my dreams and immediately mock her.
You should message me if
You are willing to hit me over the head and hold up a sign if you like me. Or you love Rome. Or movies. Or you just want to bullshit with someone about something.
