My self-summary
Hi I'm Tom, a young 24 year old British guy from San Francisco, I moved here from London two years ago to study and have been having a fantastic time since. I’m passionate about the things that I do and love being able to make a difference, however small to the lives of others.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently I’m a full time student; I’m at a private college here in San Francisco taking my MSc in Traditional Chinese Medicine, so acupuncture and herbal medicine. Back in the UK I formally trained as an acupuncturist and having come here the course is somewhat repetitive but still interesting, and it also gives me the time to engage with the 'interesting' side of the subject rather than just the required academics. It is a subject that still 5 years on fascinates me and astonishes me with the level of intuition and understanding this ancient culture knew about philosophy and medicine and how it was attained from such a different root and thought processes. My particular interest is in the academic part of the subject and its anthropological developed and I am always happy to talk about it.

Otherwise I am still a student of the world, each day I’m interested in something on this planet, from cordyceps making me question the moral authority in the universe to an average ejaculation containing 15TB of data; the universe and how we view it is a wondrous diverse and interesting place. This world is far more of a mysterious place than we give it credit for :)
I’m really good at
One the closest crafts to my heart is perfumery, since I was 15, so for 9 years I have had a foot in the commercial industry of natural perfumery, although admittedly have not made anything ‘for sale’ since I left the UK, just for friends and lovers. Scent is an amazing sense, it is something that can be so familiar yet so distant with the power to evoke a lifetimes of experience in a single whiff. I like to do traditional French perfumery and use lots of rich middle notes.

And after having made those lovely scents I need to put them in a worthy medium and so when I do so in oil I like to massage. I’ve always been into massage, from boarding school back in England using the post training massage techniques from martial arts I learnt as a child I put to good use, releasing my housemates fascia knots after a match. I also have formal training in Tuina, and tantric massage along with being a qualified Shiatsu practitioner here in SF, although admittedly I am not in practice, apart from helping a friend out now and again.
The first things people usually notice about me
First of all it will be the clothes I’m wearing, if I’m in my everyday life it will be a slightly unusual waistcoat on a beautifully trimmed shirt. As an acupuncturist who isn’t allowed to practice till I’ve completed the course here in the US, one of the ways I’ve been keeping up my needling skills is through free hand sewing, and waistcoats are easy, not to mention they're always useful to have an extra layer in the city, so it works out well. Then at an event I will just make something silly, just for fun, and then if it goes down well I may even wear it to school too!

The next most noticeable thing about me is my accent, I am British, born/lived in London and educated in Wiltshire, so to put it simply I basically sound like a BBC news reporter in the cyclone of accents that is the UK, which as far as they go is supposedly one of the easier to follow for Americans, or so I’ve been told.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
TV: Green Wing, Black Books, Episodes, 10 O’clock Live, Daily Show, Colbert Report, QI, Game of Thrones, Harry and Paul, How Not to Live Your Life, Peep Show, Misfits, The Inbetweeners, Top Gear, The Thick of It, A Touch of Cloth

Elliot is my favourite poet, Wilde my favourite playwright, Chopin my favourite composer, and author, well thats a little more tricky

Films, well this is endless, on the whole I like love film in general from trash to highbrow aspect of each of love and hate
Six things I could never do without
Firstly it is the sun, although SF is probably not the city for it, I do happen to live in the sunny part- love taking breakfast on the weekends on my roof with a great view of the city.

Secondly and only somewhat countered to my first, is my home, I love my room, how it looks, its comforts and entertainments, whether it’s watching a film in bed with the projector or meditating in candlelight watching the shimmer of light over the glassworks it is very much my point of comfort and rest- not to mention the fantastic housemates that I live with too.

Third and really this could be first is the bedroom antics and all the pleasures they contain, I’m very open sexually, and sometimes kinky. I think there is a time and a place for lots of aspects of sexuality and enjoy exploring, playing and consensually pushing boundaries.

Fourth would be my studies, whether this be in Chinese Medicine at school, oil information or personal learning I am driven to learn and further understand the world around me.

Fifth I hate to admit it but it would be my computer, I am reliant on it for so much now, connection back to the UK, work, planning etc the list is endless. But to balance this also my beautiful little leather belt journal where I write quotes and poems in.

A favourite of mine at the moment:

'If somebody thinks they're a hedgehog, presumably you just give 'em a mirror and a few pictures of hedgehogs and tell them to sort it out for themselves.
-Douglas Adams -‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’

And lastly- and I only put it last as it is a very obvious and somewhat universal one, but the friends in my life and the social bonds I nourish. I will also put in here having a furry little snugly thing in my life to cuddle from time to time, Cats preferred, but love dogs/ferrets too- thank god my neighbour has the most amazing cuddle slut of a cat with the most beautiful blue eyes that comes in whenever he can.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
If I’m being honest then: How it is I actually think and why and how did I get there. But it usually starts at wondering what everyone else is thinking
On a typical Friday night I am
No matter what I’ll have a pint of something in my hand
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
sometimes kinky ;)
