My self-summary
Smart, educated, generally laid back and down to earth neo-hippie type. My general interests are pretty diverse, but those about which I am most passionate typically involve music and/or the outdoors. I like to spend my winters skiing, hiking and snowshoeing; the rest of the year, hiking, backpacking and camping. I jam (I'm a musician) year-round.

Musically, I enjoy many genres and grew up playing rock ("classic" nowadays), HR, HM, blues, etc. The past several years I've really been getting into jam music with heavy influence from the Dead, Phish, Blues Traveller, Gov't. Mule, etc.
One of the things I get asked about most often is my music. I'm a bass player. Played since I was a kid and have passed through many phases with it. Spent over ten years doing the "Classic Rock/Oldies" thing and had a lot of fun playing the bars. Nonetheless, I found myself getting pretty tired of it after a while and wanted to do something different. Eventually started a jam project with an old buddy and have had more fun with my music than I have in many years. It's almost entirely free-form improv with a few other guys who pursue it for the same freedom of expression which I do, myself. We all have long and diverse backgrounds and what we put together out of thin air is often jazzy, gritty, bluesy and wild, with elements of Latin, folk, funk and classical thrown in for good measure. Some of it has been described as "Phish meets Frank Zappa." Guess I've been taking my influences to heart with this little project...

Good job/career, moderate stability, no baggage and a firm belief that life is too short for a lot of insecurity, hang-ups and "typical guy" bullshit. No patience for head cases or mind-gamers, either.

On the more domestic side, I like to cook (and I'm pretty good at it, too), read, take in a good movie or show, hang out or whatever. I love good live music, and that will generally get me out to a club much more readily than just the "scene." I am also an unrepentant hedonist and inveterate libertine who enjoys fine beer, wine and liquor, good cooking snuggling/sensuality, 420 and occasional psychedelics.
What I’m doing with my life
Living it. That is our purpose for being here in the first place, after all.
I’m really good at
Lots of things-- some public, some private...;)
The first things people usually notice about me
Dunno. My hair, maybe. What's the first thing you notice?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Here is where I reveal a certain nerdancy... I love fantasy and sci-fi. Always have and I've never "outgrown" it. I also enjoy historical fiction (think "The Baroque Cycle") and mystery/thriller type books. Authors would include: Tolkien, Steven Lawhead, Harry Harrison, R.A. Salvatore, Neal Stephenson, Preston/Child, HST, Jack Whyte, Clive Cussler and on and on...
Movies go along similar lines, and a good old fashioned, shoot-em-up, over-the-top action/caper flick is always fun. I don't see many movies at the theater, though, since I don't enjoy them as much by myself. Similar story for most TV shows. I don't watch very much TV, so I don't catch most of the shows. Like movies, I find them later, on Netflix.
Musically, I can go with most things from Metallica to Mozart. Meh, on most country (I'm a life-long Parrothead, but that's entirely different) and rap/hip hop quickly makes me violent (as in destroy whatever is making that gawdawful noise).
Food? Yea, food rocks. Especially good food. I enjoy most/all types of food and love how our "Northwestiness" allows us to mix them in ways they were never intended, but should have been. I'm omnivorous by nature, but frequently tend toward pescatarian/vegetarian.
Six things I could never do without
My Health
My Dignity
My Intellect
My Hands and Feet
My Bass and people to groove with
My Freedom
My Self Respect
Access to the Backcountry
...And just for good measure, my six favorite bass players, without whom my music would be far less than it is: John Entwistle, Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Phil Lesh, Mike Gordon and Bobby Sheehan.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Too many things at once, more often than not.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hard to say. Sometimes I go out with friends, other times I might stay home. Depends upon my mood and any other weekend plans I might have.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm willing to share quite a bit, even in a public forum; but if you really want to know, you'll have to ask me in person. I'd be happy to give you an answer.
You should message me if
If you see anything here that interests or intrigues you. Hell, just stop by and say "Hi" if you like. I'm mainly interested in meeting and getting to know new people with similar interests. I'm in no rush to search out my next soulmate-- been there, done that and I've got the divorce papers to prove it. In my experience "Real" happens if you give it enough opportunity, but seldom does it work by desperation or design.
