My self-summary
I love that feeling of joy that comes from strangely simple things - a chance conversation with an old friend, sun and blue skies, sitting down to eat a good meal with good company, or hearing a song you once knew all the words to.

I've got a serious musical bent and I'm into everything from pop country to free jazz to tiny sub-sub-genres of metal. I love listening to music, sharing it, talking about it, and making it. I have a small menagerie of instruments that don't get practiced half as much as they deserve.

In theory I'm outdoorsy. In practice, I bike every day, run 3x per week, hike once in a blue moon, and ski a few times per year.
What I’m doing with my life
After 23 years on the other coast, I moved here two years ago to start a PhD in Computer Science at an anonymous school in the U District. I've since been seduced away to the corporate life and currently work at some no-name internet search company in Fremont.

Outside of work, I play jazz piano, run in the rain, sing too loudly, play ultimate, watch soccer, play board games, and drink good beer.
I’m really good at
improvisation and embarrassing myself at karaoke.
The first things people usually notice about me
Tall, skinny guy in the loud pants. The pants are also skinny.

- A solid pair of running shoes
- A cup o' coffee in the morning
- A good IPA - Dogfish Head, Stone, Lagunitas, Goose Island, etc.
- An interesting problem to tackle
I spend a lot of time thinking about
When buzzfeed finally takes over the rest of the internet, what .gifs will I use for each section of my okcupid profile?
On a typical Friday night I am
At your local drinkin' establishment being confidently wrong or silently right at trivia, singing Marvin Gaye poorly, or playing shuffleboard.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Yuengling holds a very special place in my heart.
You should message me if
you like beer and conversation with new people.

At the same time.
