Like most people on this website, I do love to travel. I've backpacked on my own in western China, attended a wedding in Thailand, had my passport stolen in Ireland, driven across the US, fought forest fires in Alaska, skydived in Hawaii, attended a 4 day music festival in Switzerland, and worked for a volcano hiking company in Guatemala. I prefer a ruck sack over roller luggage. Hostel/guest house/couch surfing over hotels. If I'm with someone special, the occasional hotel room for privacy is great but I do prefer the social environments of the other lodging options. Pushing my comfort zone over keeping the comforts of home. I do get myself into precarious situations which make for great stories later. I'm naturally curious so I want to learn local culture and history through locals.
A favorite quote of mine is from an Athenian admiral, "What humans leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but rather what is woven into the lives of others." Volunteer work is a big part of my life. I deploy with a disaster response organization regularly. Sometimes I'm in command staff for response operations. Other times I'm getting dirty in the field on a chainsaw team or removing debris. I also set up and do community service projects with the same organization in between operations. I'm also a seasonal wildland firefighter and part of a wilderness search & rescue group. A lot of folks ask why I devote so much time to my volunteer work. The best way I can describe my reason is that it's an impulse to reach out and help others.
Movies - Big Lebowski, Deadpool, Planet Earth (David Attenborough) Good Will Hunting, Forrest Gump, Gladiator, Hot Fuzz, Blood Diamond, Zombieland, Idiocracy, The Other Guys, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Raid: Redemption.
TV- Cosmos, How I Met Your Mother, Archer, Rick and Morty, South Park, Futurama, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, old school Simpsons, and Last Week Tonight.
Music - My taste of music is something that perplexes a lot of my friends. It almost encompasses everything. My ipod on random can bounce from 80s to heavy metal to pop to country to Bollywood to electronic violin (Lindsey Stirling is awesome) to Latin to rap to alternative... you get the point. No Justin Bieber though, the line has to be drawn somewhere.
Food- Most spicy dishes. My favorite cuisines are Italian, Indian, and Korean. I am always in search of a good Sichuan hot pot place as well.
I'm looking for someone that is active and has a sense of adventure with whom I can share new experiences with, from new travel destinations to trying new restaurants or festivals.
