My self-summary
Hm... To sum oneself up in so few words seems futile at best, and a vain exercise in self-deception at worst… So here goes! My general interests and hobbies are science fiction, video games, anime, reading, running, biking, hiking (camping), pen and paper RPGs, and similar nerdy things. I’m generally not very serious and you’d have to try pretty hard to offend me. I favor a direct approach to social interactions, I'd rather someone be overly blunt than go out of their way to avoid offence. I like fiction, and adventure, and spontaneity. I'm not the sharpest tool, but I have my moments *mischievous grin*. Fairly pragmatic and cynical – possibly a closet romantic; time will tell. If I was an RPG class, I’d be a duelist-rogue: I enjoy cunning and I’m not above underhanded advantages but I'm not without honor (of a sort!), and ultimately the conflict will be down to direct confrontation.
The first things people usually notice about me
You mean aside from how friggan badass I am?! Based on comments said to my face, I guess it would be my 'red' hair (personally I think it's somewhere between burnt sienna and umber, but what can you do~ *ahem*). Yeah, probably get the hair thing the most...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Throwing food in at the end of the media list seems like an odd grouping, OKCupid, but whatevs. As for books, I'm partial to sci-fi, fantasy, graphic novels, and general geekery. Some of my favorite series are Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones), Ready Player One, The Dresden Files, Sandman Slim, Guant's Ghosts, the Eisenhorn trilogy, Vlad Taltoss series, The Black Company, the Night's Dawn Trilogy, Y the Last Man, Chew, Atomic Robo, and Scott Pilgrim.

As for movies my taste is kinda all over the place. To name a few: Aliens, Terminator 2, Leon: The Professional, Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, District 9, Ghost in the Shell, The Empire Strikes Back, Serenity, Gattaca, The Incredibles, Hot Fuzz, Zombieland, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Moon, Up, The Darjeeling Limited, In Bruges, Unforgiven, No Country for Old Men, 3:10 to Yuma, The Magnificent Seven, How to Train Your Dragon, Iron Man, Avengers... My current obsession is Pacific Rim.

Regarding TV, I'm a sucker for HBO: Rome, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Game of Thrones, Newsroom, The Wire, Curb your Enthusiasm, Flight of the Concords are some of my favorites. Other than that, Firefly, Angel, and Battlestar Galactica, Legend of Korra, Adventure Time, Archer, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Community. I'm not a huge fan of sitcoms, though I make the occasional exception for How I Met Your Mother.

Let's see, musics... hmmm... my most played are probably Nine Inch Nails, Gravity Kills, Silversun Pickups, Metric, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Two Steps From Hell. Oh! And how could I forget Les Miserables. Not a huge musical buff, but I love me some Les Mis (10th anniversary dreamcast performance)!

Finally, when it comes to food I like it simple, hearty, and well made. Burgers and fries, turkey and avocado sammiches, pizza, fried calamari, sushi, carnitas burritos.
The six things I could never do without
Well I want to say land, sea, and sky for starters. Not that I'd be opposed to attempting space-based living, mind you, I just think I'd get sick of the recycled air and muscle atrophy would be a serious concern. Maybe if it was a Serenity situation where I had a rough but lovable crew- I'm getting way off topic. Seriously though, I'm keeping those first three. I like being outdoors with wind in my face and dirt beneath my feet (and frequently on my hands. Not that I'm a dirty person - I shower quite frequently! I'm not afraid of a little grit while enjoying the more natural things on this planet is what I'm getting at.) I'm going to finish off my list with fiction (books/movies), friends, and... I dunno, cookies. No wait, donuts!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How long I'd last in a zombie apocalypse. Ethical questions raised by whatever sci-fi I'm currently reading (cloning, bio-engineering, and galactic colonization for instance [just read Old Man's War]). What to read next. Fiction. Food. Fictional food. Piloting Gundams. Batman. Boba Fett. The person I am and how I can be... better. Badass womenz (Linda Hamilton in T2: Judgment Day). My dreams. Psychology. Transhumanism. What house I would be of in Westeros (I like to think I'd be a Mormont, but I'm not sure I'm that hardcore). What I'd be like in different time periods. And other randomness - prone to daydreams and whimsy.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually out getting a good meal with friends, then coming home and enjoying a good (or really bad) movie together. Or gaming online with my buddies who've moved out of the Bay Area. Or reading.
You should message me if
you're looking to hang out with someone who's as at home geeking out over pop culture as he is exploring the outdoors; if you're not above letting your inner kid out every once in a while (bouncy houses, trampolines, cartoons, assorted silly shenanigans); and if you think a tasty meal with good people is preferable to going to a club. Also, if you're familiar with the meaning of my username (no cheating, now) I have a ring with your name on it. (Joking! [Mostly])
