I like to think my curly hair is a manifestation of my personality: unpredictable, nonconforming, and a little messy.
I'm a quirky person who is more comfortable on my own than with a group of people.
I say I try not to take myself too seriously but I realized this summer that I probably do more than I care to admit. I'm working on it.
I love movies that can recall a very specific emotion by tapping into the human experience. Maybe it's because I'm becoming more sentimental as I get older. Some of my favorite movies include Defending Your Life, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Truman Show, Rudy, The Tao of Steve, The Big Lebowski, Office Space, and Clue.
One of my first tv obsessions was Twin Peaks. I was absolutely consumed with the show when I was in high school. I am very excited to see what the forthcoming season holds. I can watch King of the Hill and Psych over and over again and often do. My favorite channel is Antenna-tv as I'm a sucker for old tv shows!
Music was a huge passion of mine in my teens and early twenties. I couldn't imagine then not having music at the center of my life. However, I have found as I've gotten older that I'm less consumed by it. I still love it though and sometimes miss the fervent relationship I had with it when I was younger.
I love jazz music and the mood it evokes. Out of all of the music I've loved, I feel like "jazz" is the music that continues to grow with me. Favorite musicians include: Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughan, Yusef Lateef, Grant Green, Charles Mingus, Dinah Washington, Jimmy Scott, Ahmad Jamal, Wes Montgomery, Charles Brown, Nina Simone, Charlie Parker, Mulatu Astatke, and Horace Silver.
Other bands/musicians who hold a special place in my heart: Minutemen, Agent Orange, Gang of Four, Calexico, Menomena, Angelo Badalamenti, The Dismemberment Plan, Richard Hawley, Van Morrison, Robert Palmer, Lefty Frizzel, Marty Robbins, Destroyer, Lampchop, Nick Lowe, Big Country, BeauSoleil, and The Waterboys.
I also listen to a lot of podcasts when driving or at work. My favorite podcast, hands down, is Ronna and Beverly. The human condition must not apologize for itself!
When it comes to food, I like to stay in my comfort zone. However, I'm trying to branch out more as I get older. I'll never turn down sushi or Greek.
A good book.
