My self-summary
I'm a transplanted Seattleite, coming via Canada, here for work and whatever else I want to do. I enjoy reading, dancing, drinking, and climbing (and probably a bunch of other stuff). I really want to get on the water, and try out this standing board thing.

I like to laugh at myself when I trip and almost fall on my face, and I usually walk on the edge of the sidewalk (assuming that gives some indication of my personality). I'm usually up for doing something new, but I often forget to get activities started.

Basically, these intro things suck, and I'm probably missing out on a bunch of more interesting qualities. If you envision a guy with a beard in a coffee shop, reading a book, you probably won't be too far off, though.
What I’m doing with my life
I just moved to Austin for work, something I never thought I'd say. I'm here from WA via Ontario, and am currently trying to survive the heat. I've been really focused on my career (namely being a student) for most of my life, and now that I'm finally out with a real person job, I'm trying to be more social. I'd like to get outside a decent amount, and possibly go on a hiking trip.
I’m really good at
Math, and making fun of physics math.
Also, getting sunburnt.
Additionally, hard puzzles like those from Microsoft puzzle hunt or Puzzled Pint.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my eyebrows. I've been told I have an "expressive" face (i.e. I like making faces), and my eyebrows definitely play a part.

I don't actually ask people this question, though, so whatever people notice first.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books! I'd be down to read most books, but I definitely love a good fantasy series (5 books of 700 pages, at least). I've read some of the basics, (Tolkein, Jordan, Williams, Martin, etc.), but I end up re-reading them instead of reading new books. Unfortunately, I've left my collection of books in Canada, so I'm trying to branch out a bit. I occasionally read some classics, but not from everyone. Dostoevsky I can read through, but Joyce and Milton end up put down in favor of a book I actually enjoy. Additionally, I keep a book on set theory by by bed in case I need some help falling asleep; one or two pages and I can't keep my eyes open.

For movies, it really depends on my mood, but I generally favor the Disney/Dreamworks movies like How to Train Your Dragon or else a comedy like Hot Fuzz. I'll occasionally watch an action film, but I'm definitely not a fan of horror.

I don't generally watch a lot of TV, (the whole cord-cutter generation and all), but I do binge watch what I do enjoy. Doctor Who, House, Rick and Morty, Simpson, Archer, Sherlock, etc. Basically, I enjoy something that has an interesting plot, usually with some laughs to break up the mood.

As for music, its never been a huge factor in my life. I'll listen to most things without complaint, and sing along to some classic rock, but I usually work better without listening to anything. At the same time, I love live music, and want to find some of the good places here in Austin.

I generally enjoy any kind of food, but I'd like to know the good places to eat here in Austin.
Six things I could never do without
By far, a good cup of coffee. I've only been in Austin a week, and I've already tried at least 12 different coffee joints.

My current book (whatever it may be).

A piece of paper and a (fine-tipped) pen. I can do some math in my head, but once the equations get too long I get a headache.

My change pouch (seriously, I don't like change in my pockets).

A water bottle.

I could probably live without it, but I'd miss a nice sipping tequila. (I'm not fluent in everything good, but I really want to do some tequila tastings.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whatever I'm supposed to think about for research (how does that bound go; wait that's supposed to be bigger not less; where's the factor of two coming from; WHY CAN'T I MATH!?!)

What's going on tonight? Should I grab some food or make dinner later?

I should probably work out; hey, more food!
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm either drinking and dancing with friends, drinking and playing board games with friends, or drinking with friends. (Notice any theme?) I might also be at home reading a book/watching netflix, or going on a long meandering walk; really just depends on my mood.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've got a thing for piercings and tattoos. I like them on other people, and I like getting them.
You should message me if
you want someone to explore Austin with. I just moved here, and while I can explore by myself, it's nicer to talk with someone over dinner as opposed to reading a book all the time.

I'm also trying to get back into climbing, so if you need a belay partner, I'm looking for one too. I haven't bought a membership yet at any gym, but we'll see what happens.

If you have access to the UT gym, I'm looking for a squash partner!
