My self-summary
I think I'm pretty awesome, but not in the stuck up "I'm better than you" kind of way. I think I'm awesome more in the "I'm very confident in myself and happy with who I am" kind of way. I know my faults but those are just as important as my merits in making me the person writing this self-summary.

I think a lot and while I don't consider myself any better at it than the next person, I do like having abstract conversations about anything that can come up. I love learning random things.

I like hedgehogs, watching historic documentaries, and college football. I think that says a lot about me.

I am impulsive, easygoing, and warm.
What I’m doing with my life
I am engaged to a wonderful girl I met here on OkC. We got engaged on a cruise ship crossing the Atlantic (actually about 400 miles from the wreckage of the Titanic). We've moved back to the US together from Japan where we lived for 5 years (we met a little over 3 years ago).

Lately I've been thinking about my future. I want to travel more before I start getting old and have responsibilities like a family. I'm thinking I'd like to go to graduate school for linguistics, and eventually travel the world recording dying languages and the stories contained within them.
I’m really good at
-making kids laugh and shoot milk out of their nose.

-dancing (apparently).

-relentlessly hunting mosquitoes down after they bite me in the middle of the night. One of us never lives to see the sunrise.
The first things people usually notice about me
Physically, my hair or my nose.

Otherwise I think I have a good sense of humour.

You might notice I spell humour with a 'u' even though I'm American!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Linguistic and language textbooks get me all hot and bothered.

I'm not really a movie person. I'll watch them sometimes but I never go to theatres or go out to rent movies. I do have a few favorites though and they are: Hotel Rwanda, Lost in Translation, Eight Days a Week, Ghost World, Fargo, Boondock Saints, Snake Eyes.

B-1 (TV): I love watching sports on I'm hooked on original The Twilight Zone episodes on Netflix. If you're a fan of The Twilight Zone I'd love to talk about favorite episodes.

C: If you like any of these artists then you're automatically cool with me.

Curve, Garbage, Collide, Republica, kidneythieves, Tatu, Bush, Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Bethany Curve, BT, Ladytron, Radiohead, Polysics, Catherine Wheel, Freezepop, Broken Social Scene, Goldfrapp, Laika, Metric, Bump of Chicken, Portishead, Orbital, Air, KOMPRESSOR, Massive Attack,

Buffalo wings, (almost) anything Japanese, anything Russian, nachos, macaroni and cheese.
Six things I could never do without
Good health, my friends and my family. Everything else is just background noise.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life, the universe and everything.

Why do most Japanese sweets come in two wrappers? For example, I challenge you to find any kind of cookie that is not individually wrapped, packaged in 8-10 and packaged again.

In Japan, on every set of double doors, one door is permanently locked. I've yet to meet anyone in this country that can explain why they do this.

If two people go on a date and they're both good listeners... what happens?
On a typical Friday night I am
Not home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Nothing you'd care about.
You should message me if
You have a cool story to tell.

If you want to go on an adventure.

If you want to make my day.

You have something you want to share with me. I recommend music and news articles among other things to people all the time, but I seldom get any good recommendations in return. So if you're the kind of person who likes to share things they find interesting (genuinely interesting, not "lol a waterskiing squirrel I'mma forward this to everyone via e-mail lolz") you should totally message me.
