My self-summary
(Note: it seems like the default location under "looking for..." is "near me." If you are here because I looked at your profile first but I didn't message you, there is a good chance it's because you have your profile set to "near me" and I just didn't want to bug you. Feel free to message if you don't actually mind distance!)

I used to have a lot more filled out here, but I have discovered that if I give everything away right from the beginning it leaves out the fun in getting to know each other. That said, I'm a very open book once we start talking. You can ask me anything.

I am very sarcastic in my sense of humor, but I know when to be serious.

I love life, family and friends. I know people say that often, but I truly mean it. I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy. I'm all about trying new opportunities and walking through doors as they open.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm privileged to say I'm a storyteller.

Currently I edit and write words for one of Canada's national newspapers, but I've worked as a journalist in many other capacities (specializing in media, music and geeky things). Radio, TV, online, print; anything really.

I've done a bit of traveling with my work, mainly throughout the United States though. I would love to land a reporting job that required more traveling as going to new places and experiencing new cultures is fascinating for me.

I received a Bachelors of Commerce degree in business management, majoring in entrepreneurship and innovation. After that I did postgraduate journalism, emphasizing in broadcast. I work in print now. Go figure.
I’m really good at
Making myself look ridiculous. Every day.

But seriously, I dislike this question. It feels like you should have some sort of ego in order to answer it. I try not to have an ego.

I suppose you could say I'm good at doing the little things. Remember the details. Making people feel wanted.

I'm also good at having fun and trying new things, but I'm not a party-your-face-off kind of guy (though I do often enjoy a good drink). I enjoy the company and want to remember it.

- Listening.
- People watching (ssh, it's fascinating sometimes).
- Cooking Minute Rice in only 58 seconds.
- American history / politics (again, so fascinating and addictive)
- Technology -- just call me the I.T. guy. Or just geek. I'm a sucker for nerdy things (devices, gaming, comics, etc).
- Disney trivia. Or cartoons in general, but especially Disney. What can I say? I'm a big Disney guy.

I will admit I'm good at pop culture and current event punchlines. If you stay up on your current events, we'll crack some serious jokes!
The first things people usually notice about me
Eek, again with the ego questions...
I guess people say my smile, laughter and sense of humor. I do have really blue eyes, so I get comments on those too from time to time.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I read primarily non-fiction stuff. I love books on American history, politics, media, journalism, sociology, social studies, business, etc. I just love finding out what makes people tick and why people do what they do, either as an aggregate or also on a smaller scale. Biographies are a ton of fun too. I just love learning, really.

Otherwise, I recently signed up for Marvel Unlimited, which gives you access to over 16,000 Marvel comics. Best subscription service ever. I keep getting lost in so many comics, including Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-man, Deadpool, Avengers and much more. Can't wait until Disney comics start finding their way in there.

Movies: I'll watch pretty much anything, sometimes even the drama comedies / chick flicks with my younger sister and mom when I'm home (ssh, don't tell anyone). I love watching documentaries too. Again with the learning thing.

Shows: Again, I'll watch pretty much anything (including cartoons. LOVE old cartoons). But some of my current favorites include Modern Family, Doctor Who, Seinfeld, The Walking Dead, The West Wing (still addicted!), The Newsroom, BBC's Sherlock, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and many more.

Music: I listen to pretty much everything except twangy country (though pop country isn't bad) and screamo music. I love, love, love music. There is always music playing and I love finding new bands to listen to.

Food: Pizza! No, seriously. I love pizza. And coffee. It's basically a food group for me.
Six things I could never do without
Aside from the obvious ones (family, friends, etc)...

A typing/writing instrument
Sunny summer days
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future.
What makes people tick.
How I probably should be doing something productive right now.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually working or having a relaxing evening in after a long week. That or covering an event for a story.

But in terms of "what do I do for fun, but maybe not on a Friday"? I love exploring the city and finding new places to visit... Hanging out around the house after a busy week to watch movies/TV... Going out with friends for those casual kind of fun nights (bowling, museums, markets, etc). I love spontaneity if I'm with people I love.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I missed being born on a leap day by two days (it was a leap year). I would be, what, five right now? How awesome would that have been??

Again, I'm a pretty open book though. The main reason I'm here is because I have been so busy with school and work that it has been hard to meet people.
You should message me if
You have a sense of humor, don't mind sarcasm, love to go out and explore new places, don't mind some geeky things and simply want to chat.
