My self-summary
My best thinking and my best singing both happen in traffic.

I don't always drink beer, but when I do it's porters and stouts. Mostly.

A style guide hasn't been on my bookshelf since high school, but it still makes me feel a bit naughty to start a sentence with the word "and."

One time, I went furniture shopping at IKEA by myself. Do not go furniture shopping at IKEA by yourself. Your carts will be too heavy and you'll get stuck somewhere in the warehouse. The groups who planned ahead will openly judge as you struggle with an unwieldy Askvoll.

And finally, I'm a horror junkie and a voracious reader always looking for cool new media to consume, so an easy way to introduce yourself would be a book or movie suggestion! Bonus points if it's something I've never heard of before, and extra bonus points if you know a place that shows it at midnight.
What I’m doing with my life
For now I do public relations for indie video games, but I studied literature and psychology in college and I'm planning on an MFA sometime in the near-ish future.

There are a few pieces I have in utero, so to say, that I'd like to publish or send in as application materials or both. If I like you a lot, I might even ask you to read them during the process and tell me what still sucks. What can I say? I like it rough.
I’m really good at
I trained as a classical ballerina for over 13 years and I try to keep up with my flexibility and pointe work as best I can. It's tough to get in the old 6 classes a week nowadays but I manage to get a barre session in at home every now and then. I really miss being in the studio, so I'm looking for reasonably-priced classes that work with a Monday-Friday 9-6 work schedule.

If you take me snowboarding I'll race you down the first double black we see.

Maybe this is a weird thing to consider a skill, but I pride myself on being adaptable. By that I mean I strive to find the adventure in all the little ways life can screw with a well-laid plan. The best stories never end with "..and so, everything happened exactly as it should."

Rumor has it I can also make a mean chili (it's all in the salt. Everything is in the salt. Also, red wine. Sometimes I even put it in the chili.)
The first things people usually notice about me
Curls. It's always the curls, unless I've slicked my hair back. Then it's something about how I resemble Trinity from The Matrix.

I cut my hair myself, so the feedback is always appreciated.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'll read most anything, but if I absolutely had to sum up the type of literature I'm most interested in, it would be a category called "the bad things that good people do." But that's by no means a catch-all. Lately I've been digging Sheridan le Fanu, Bret Easton Ellis, Lyudmila Petrushevskaya, Haruki Murakami, Ramsey Campbell, Hector Hugh Munro (better known as Saki), Christopher Moore, Wilkie Collins, Gillian Flynn, Vladimir Nabokov, H. P. Lovecraft, and Mary Gaitskill. Just finished House of Leaves, so that gets its own special mention.

When I want to put a movie on I know I'll enjoy, I'll watch Quentin Tarantino, Chan-Wook Park, Takeshi Miike, Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch, Kim Jee-Woon, Dario Argento, David Fincher or Christopher Nolan pre-TDKR.

I listen to all kinds of stuff, but some of my more recent playlists draw from David Bowie, The Raconteurs, The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, Elliott Smith, Blockhead, Beach Boys, Lovage, Otis Redding, Santo & Johnny, Mr. Twin Sister, Frank Ocean, alt-J, Portishead, RJD2, Caribou, Gin Wigmore, The War On Drugs, Flying Lotus, Pink Floyd, St. Vincent, Spoon, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Cults and Death (they're a punk band from the early 70s that didn't get a lot of recognition until really recently - check them out!)

As far as eating goes, I'm part-goat. I eat anything and I love finding food I've never tried before.
Six things I could never do without
(in no particular order)

A pen
A stack of books I have yet to read.
A manageable amount of organized chaos.
Sunlight, and lots of it.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How long I can remain in the same transitional phase before it stops being transitional.
On a typical Friday night I am
In a box somewhere simultaneously dead and alive until observed.
You should message me if
Fuck it, why not? Nobody's getting any younger. If you are, you should probably get that checked out.

I'm really friendly once you get me talking, but still working past a bit of shyness. So if I messaged you first, I'm super duper interested.
